firestorm238
So, Im having a problem with reinstalling Perkus Maximus. Somehow my computer magically gave me the middle finger and set skyrim/data/documentation/perkusmaximus as access is denied. So i go to change my permissions on it, since I'm administrator. and the only damn account on my laptop. makes sense right? the only account is the admin account. right click, properties, security, then i get:! you must have read permissions to view the properties of this object. click advanced to continue. so i click advanced. name is name of folder (see above)owner is: unable to display current owner (change) and all the permissions, auditing, and effective access tabs say f*** off you are not the admin! (more or less) so i hit the change button next to unable to display current owner. guess what? f*** off! You have no permissions here! f*** you folder! I'm the damn admin! How DAAAAAR YOU! proceed to look at youtube for fix. youtube says that when you hit security then the advanced button, you have options. Well I don't have options! I have my computer flipping me the bird! GET OFF MY LAWN YOUTUBE! YOU ARE NO HELP! I try to change my permission for all my 1 accounts. :-/ You have all permissions dave. WELL OBVIOUSLY I DON'T WINDOWS 10! So, that is more or less my problem, added humor to stop me from putting my fist through my screen. Skyrim is currently unplayable because perkus maximus is stuck with one foot in deleted and one foot in installed. So, anyone know how i can fix this? firestorm238
so, it seems if you try to delete the offending folder, have your computer give you the bird, then restart you computer, poof! everything is magically alright. My laptop is being passive aggressive. Its probably unhappy because I fattened its D: by shoving 30 gigs of mods down its ethernet port, and when it asked if all those gigs made it look fat, I said yes. LeddBate
You sir, are comedy gold. Nice 2001 reference. "Dave, I can see you're really upset about this." But I'm glad your problems worked themselves out.
AleCuneo
@firestorm238Your posts may be the funniest I've ever read. I would venture to guess you may be British.Anyway, although you appear to have solved this particular issue you have not yet solved the permissions bollox.Win 10 treats administrators as plebs. In short, MS has decided we may no longer have control of our own PC's any more. It seems the way around this is to configure your account with elevated admin rights. Run a search for that and you should be able to retake control of most parts of your machine.
PlukovnikPravda
I hope this will solve my NMM issue causing me the same - exactly the same - problem. Microlimp tells me the problem is the fault of the mod manager program, ignoring the Orwellian merry-go-round Dave firestorm238 and I have. Cuz if that were true, then Mod Organizer would also be the culprit. Hmmm...two different pieces of software, same Microsmall reaction. I'd like to clean reinstall Win10, but I'm not keen to pay for what should have been properly installed when this Asus arrived in all her glory. Kapteyn
Normally you need to remove all of the existing accounts by unchecking the inherit checkbox - it will give you a prompt, you click "remove". It's pretty much the only thing you can do, everything else gives you an "Access Denied". Then readd the accounts after. It's rather fiddly, you have to think about the SYSTEM account, ADMIN and probably the generic USER one as well, you need to manually set the permissions. Sometimes you can use a XCACLS batch script to take ownership but you'll probably still be denied in this case.
AleCuneo
I recently had a similar issue with refused permissions driving me towards suicide. I raised the point on a Windows forum and was told to right click on the offending folder then select Reset Permissions to include sub-folders and files. TBH, I didn't know this option even existed! Even though I had serious doubts that it would improve matters, after all, surely Windows default settings are the exact opposite to what I needed to achieve, I was so desperate that I gave it a try anyway.Imagine my surprise when... fill in the rest of the sentence here!!! It worked for me so maybe it will work for others. :teehee:
Kapteyn
Why don't I have one of those things on my context menu? Did this not come with Win7 or did I nuke it? In theory yes, that should do the trick nicely.
AleCuneo
Why don't I have one of those things on my context menu? Did this not come with Win7 or did I nuke it? Whoops! I forgot to mention I'm using Win 10 which I absolutely hate !But I would be surprised if the same option isn't hidden somewhere in Win 7.Google it and see if it can be accessed via Powershell or some other tweak.
