lametrie
Hei, I try to alter something in another mod to make it compatible with one of my own mods. I tried to save a new mod, load both my own and the other mod and do the changes, but after saving and installing the patch, the changes don't work.I tried to load it as last mod in OMM, but it does not help. To be a little bit clearer:I try to get away the bridge from BC in Leyaviin harbor and install a drawbridge for it. But doing it in the way described above, the original bridge from BC is still there (plus the drawbridge :) I had more luck by making a copy of BC full and doing the changes with that copy. That works! but i have no idea how to get a patch out of this. Don't like the thougt to use a modified copy of another mod, not to think about the size... I tried the "save difference" in the "tools" meny, without luck. Please, is there someone to help?! Many thanks!!! Lametrie.
wizardmirth
If this mod is for personal use then it's perfectly ok to make changes to the original mod. If you wish to make a change patch for people to use then create a new mod first and save it. Then load both mods with your new mod as active and make the changes as needed. The new mod should then be dependant on the original mod to work.

Lametrie.when you references something at CS, if they are on different mods you marked to be loaded. such references will have the first byte, an index indicating their load order. So, if you mark one mod as the active one and another as loaded.. they will be 01 and 02 (hexadecimal) being Oblivion.esm aways the 00. This will function well in the CS... but will fail bad in game as there they can have completely different load order indexes. All references you did will be invalid. PS: OBSE just at the newer versions is supplying ways to catch references of other mods 'on fly', but is not yet complete I think. So for now, beyond OBSE plugins like pluggy, this you want can't be done. Even using pluggy is maybe something you will want to do, or not, as it becomes a 'required dependence' Bashed patches works because they aren't done at the CS, Wrye Bash take in account all things needed to be done so the patch works, and even so, altering mods require rebuilding it.
