mindfanatix
Hi, I get a way to bring the memory use of Skyrim over 2.097.152 kbMy last test bringing a memory use of 2.997.152 kb How i find that way: I was pissed about the new patch and nothing happen to the memory use ( cause i use a 64-bit system and have 8 GB of Ram avaliable ). And about my huge list of Mods i use, the crashes comming more and often.Next was happen, that i am wondering about the install-Dir. I installed Steam on my 64-bit Program folder ( problem was, that steam wont so easy on this folder so i worked on the Registry in the path of Steam. After Steam was succesfull installed on my 64-bit program folder i installed skyrim on it and see - more ram was used and it loads much faster then before. The only problem i cant fix are the game crashes they come sometimes but normaly i can play now some hours without problems. How to set up all: 1. Deinstall Skyrim2. Deinstall Steam3. Install Steam (install Path has to be %programfiles%\Steam and not %programfiles(x86)%\Steam)3a. If Steam is correct installed on the right folder go to step 4. If not, go to step 3b3b. Close all Steam applications and move the steam folder from "program files (x86)" to "program files"3c. Open your Registry (Start -> Run -> regedit)3d. search for all strings with "program files (x86)\Steam" and change them into "program files\Steam"3e. Restard System and everithing has to work now4. Install Skyrim5. Go to NMM and set the Path of Skyrim new (open as Admin)6. reinstall all mods and extras you like7. DONE - Have fun I dont know exactly, why it runs better on x64 but it works for me on the best. Hope it helps for you to have a nice Day Mindfanatix
nosisab
First: Don't install Steam at C:\Program Files... at all if you are to do a fresh install, do it in a user created folder far away that non blessed one. But then, there is not an official LAA patch, it was included into the 1.3 patch and later. PS: Don't install ANY game under that accursed folder, mainly if is a game which allows plugins and mods. Theoretical you are right... normaly you dont have to install non 64-bit aplications and games into the 64-bit folder. But sometimes it helps a lot to do it. i have no issues since i made it. In the last official update with the release of the hi-res-packages they said, that they updated the memory ussage of skyrim. I made the same thing with everquest2 and i had much less problems then all the others who used standard folder.
BlackCompany
Never put Steam, or a game, in the Programs Files folder. Girlfriend did this once, and well....the end result was not pretty. UAC tries to get involved in that. Not to mention the default way Windows treats that somehow sacrosanct folder. Better to use a custom folder. I just do c:\Steam
BigBodZod
Yes well the issue is UAC for the most part but since I want full control over my machine, I disable UAC and then I take full control of all the folders and files as I am the local admin on my box. Since this is my dedicated gaming rig if I screw things up then oh well, I just restore from a recent backup and move on. I also have the option of a clean reinstall once more ;) I also run STEAM on my 2TB RAID Zero Array for performance so none of my games are on the System/Boot drive which is just a small SSD for Windows 7 anyways.
