Using Shouts

I've watched game play videos some using shouts almost constantly or in every single battle and so on and at first I thought thats cool, slightly comical. But in almost ~50-60 hours of gameplay I've realized that I have only really used a shout in combat maybe once or twice when I got the first word, and another to get through a "puzzle", but other then that I never use shouts.

The rest of the time I stick to combat finesse to make it through the square path to the next one.

So, out of curiosity, how often do you find yourself using shouts?

And on a personal note, I just want to say that whatever the shout that the drauger "bosses" use that can disarm your nice powerful weapon and shield out of your hand and have it fly off into a darkened crevice (thank you Realistic Lighting) with no torches is quite possibly the most annoying thing that happens to me in game. "Is it over here, or here, no there, that it, where is it, run run run, hide behind pole, that it, there it is no its a candle, WHERES MY WEAPON, thats it... I'll beat you with my fists!"

Yeah I don't find myself using shouts all that often. Once I get all three words of Unrelenting Force, I use it more than any other shout. Doesn't get old for me to see a group of 3-4 bandits / forsworn go flying off the top of a wall / cliff. I don't think the the pure damage shouts (frost, fire breath etc.) are even that powerful so I just ignore them for the most part.

And yes, being the disarmed is a total pain. I've lost a couple pretty decent weapons after they went flying and I either couldn't find them or just plain forgot to look for them after killing the boss.

I guess I use them quite a bit, generally once a fight if there are multiple enemies. I use whirlwind sprint a bit to get some space so I can heal in some situations and to run away from trouble until I'm ready to deal with it.

I'd say the only shouts I only really use would be unrelenting force to blast people off mountains and the ice form shout to freeze things in comical positions. One time I froze a giant just as he hit the ground with his club and he rolled down a hill like a ball. :P Edited by Luckylewis

i use unrelenting force and slow time. once you get the three words of slow time its really great. also the aura whisper is great for an assassin with low magicka

I use shouts every battle. I don't like to waste precious stamina running into a battle. I whirlwind to the foe and then use my skills. Whirlwind from the top of a tall cliff out into a semi deep body of water. It saves a lot of running down. Gets you past traps and critters undetected. Slow time is a real good one too. a lot of uses for that, especially on multi-dragon encounters. Frost breath staggers/stuns people for about 2 seconds, allows a master thief to re-hide if you have that skill and know what I'm speaking of. Fire breath catches fire any flamable liquid thats out and about. Ethereal when you absolutely have to get away and are on your last bit of luck. Clear skies when your eyes strain and you want to kick your monitor because your head hurst from the visual distortion you must endure. It's always fun to release unrelenting force on a bad guy or critter from the top of a wall or cliff and watch as they take flight for 2 to 3 seconds, only to come to a sudden and undeniable stop.

I use shouts if for no other reason then to make my gaming just more dynamic. Sure, I don't really need them, but I don't need about 95% of the pretty and sparkly things I keep, pick up or collect.

I use most of the shouts, actually. Almost every battle starts with a shout.

My favorites are probably Aura Whisper (silent life detect spell with short cool-down time), Animal Allegiance (particularly useful against giants), Unrelenting Force (of course) and Dragonrend.

I also use Whirlwind Sprint and Become Ethereal often while just traveling around.

Most of the rest are not that great. Any of the offensive shouts are weaker than my standard attack, Throw Voice actually has gotten me detected more than anything, and Kyne's Peace sucks when compared to Animal Allegiance.
