Cyngen80
Greetings! I am hoping someone on here can help me out. I am working on a story or fan fic obviously based on Skyrim/Elder Scrolls and I can't really find an exact answer to my question. So during the Great War nothing is really said about the city of Kvatch. Nothing really mentioned at all about the city, did it rebuild after the Oblivion Crisis? Was it ( which is highly likely ) besieged during the Great War? Kvatch is important as I want my character at least born there and basically heir to it's throne...Lastly of all the provinces which would you say was the safest place to live during the Great War excluding Skyrim? Hopefully as I write this story I'll be able to post it somewhere on the site. With pictures of course and eventually the Kvatch aspect will make sense then. Thank you for any help you can provide. DoctorKaizeld
The city of Kvatch was rebuilt after the Oblivion crisis: At the opening of the Fourth Era, following its liberation from the Daedra, the city was uninhabited and only the chapel and castle remained standing.[7] The city had been rebuilt by the time the Great War broke out in 4E 171. odds are it wasn't involved directly in the Great War as it would most likely only have a small population and served no strategic purpose to the Dominion. if the place was attacked odds are a siege occurred based on the cities location. the safest would have been High Rock or Black Marsh. High Rock due to it being the furthest from Cyridiil and Black Marsh due to it's... well, marsh. seriously that place is not one where anyone would want to fight a war. Rethrain
I think Kvatch stopped being important, strategically or otherwise after it's siege in Oblivion. I would love to know where the Legions are encamped to give a better answer to this, but the other cities that appear to be important would be Bravil, because of it's port and closeness to White Gold, can be a staging area for attack on the Capital, and Leyawiin, so as to defend the Eastern flank and further the grip on the Capital. Timing and surprise is everything. Otherwise the Empire would already have assumed this strategy and negate it. I think Kvatch and Anvil can be obviated if you take Skingrad. Again...I would love to know where the Legions are stationed.Anyways, Kvatch was probably not besieged, unless it had a more important presence. (It didn't) As far as safest, I've no idea, I suppose a lone cabin in the woods, and never venturing into the cities, lol.
saurusmaximus
As others have said, we don't have a lot of details on what actually happened in Cyrodiil during the war, but from what I've gathered, it sounds like the cities south of the Imperial City got hit the hardest. As for Kvatch specifically, I agree with qwertyzelder and guess it was probably besieged; it's on top of a mountain with only one road leading up to it, so a siege would be easy to do.To your question about good provinces to hide out in, Morrowind wasn't involved at all, though the Dunmer had plenty of their own problems; High Rock wasn't involved or only very lightly touched (I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Thalmor were on Balfiera, but that could be an out-of-game thing). Black Marsh stayed out of it, though they were sympathetic to the Thalmor. Elsweyr and Valenwood were already part of the Dominion.
