TheMastersSon
RIP to a great (imo) songwriter. Still trying to make sense of the news stories so far, e.g. Wiki's current article says: "Petty was found unconscious at his home not breathing and in full cardiac arrest in the evening of October 1, 2017. Initial reports indicated that he died on October 2, but they were later retracted as his death could not be confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department." We have no idea what the difference might be between death and having no breath or pulse.

Fkemman11
Hmm. He wasn't really even that old. I guess it's the mileage not the age. Goodbye Tom. The world is a bit dimmer with your passing.
TheMastersSon
From what I've read so far, it appears Petty went into cardiac arrest in his home in the evening of 10/1 and was braindead by the time he got medical attention. I'm guessing they were able to revive him but with no brain activity there was no point in keeping him alive. I think it's the only way to account for the later stories (the following morning on 10/2) claiming he passed away peacefully in a hospital. An autopsy was performed so we should eventually know if drugs were involved in his death. Edited October 6, 2017 by TheMastersSon
TheMastersSon
According to Petty's family his cardiac arrest was caused by a Fentanyl overdose. "He had a hip fracture" blah blah blah. Fame, fortune and opiates claim another victim.
