Unable to start SSE with mods after new update

Hello all,

The story:

I tried opening Skyrim Special Edition today (10/3) and it auto-installed an update: update 1.5 I'm assuming. When trying to open SSE, I get a message telling me that my uncapper mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8889/?) does not work with the new SSE version, and it requires Skyrim 1.4.2 - the SSE launcher then closes. Moreover, SSE refuses to start after this initial crash. I understand that in order to play with this mod, the mod author would need to update it to be compatible with the new Skyrim version - but this is not my concern.

I am concerned that the new SSE update might have made all my mods incompatible. How can any of my many mods work with a new version of SSE? Would they not require updating (which would be impossible for discontinued mods)? I saw another post too detailing a problem similar to mine (but without the specific uncapper mod I linked), but since this issue just happened with today's update, I can't find many posts about it.

While I have many mods from here at the Nexus, I have NOT installed SKSE64 or the new SSE SkyUI. My game worked perfectly before today. I have not made any changes to my game (via new mods or file updates) in quite some time.

My question:

First, are other people experiencing issues with their mods?

Also, is there any way I alone can fix this issue without removing and playing without the mods I already have? Might there be a way to change my SSE version back to 1.4.2 (I do possess backups of my saves)? If I could play the older SSE version I would have no problems.

When the Creation Club and Survival Mode were announced, I didn't plan on participating in any way (I didn't intend for Steam to force an update of the game), I just wanted to play the game with my normal mods. Is that now/going to be impossible?

And if you have Enhanced Character Edit, that has an update patch as well, which needs to be installed manually. I *think* I have just managed to do that. But then, I have SKSE64 and SkyUI. Which, since you don't, means it's neither of them causing the problem.

Of course we know what's causing the problem. It rhymes with "Squethesda." Trying to sneak paid mods in through the back door, since it caused such an outcry last time, and force out the free modders.

Well, here goes nothing again. WIsh me luck.

For now you can try to opt out of beta and play with 1.4 exe. That should fix your problems.

[EDIT] oh no the update has gone official! This is some scary business.

Please help by keeping the answer simple for those who do not understand and just want to play. The game will not launch after the latest patch. So how to get game working in simple terms dummies can understand? Uninstall all mods, then reinstall all new patched mods? How do you play with the 1.4 exe? Please keep in mind most of us do not understand your terminology.

Just received the update and found out what it contains. Not good. I have two archived backups of SSE, one is vanilla, the other is fully modded. My saves are also backed up. I'm now going to delete my entire SSE game folder, and copy my modded backup over. From now on, just before I fire up the game, I'll disable my internet connection and start steam in Offline mode. Simplicity itself.

Since the update, I'm getting a CTD whenever I access the map. I'm using the "A Quality World Map" mod and there has been no updates for that since July. If I disable it, will that solve the problem?
