Hey, all!

A few of you have seen my repeated posts in other forums detailing my hits & misses with transferring my modded Fallout 3 game to a new computer. Today was the day for my second attempt, and this time IT WORKED.

I had G4WL disabler, FOMM, and ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated all ready to go. Here's how it went:

- Installed vanilla version.

- Updated to 1.7.

- Copied over my entire Fallout 3 folder from the old PC.

- Attempted to run G4WL, got the ordinal 5360 message.

- Upgraded Games for Windows Live

- Successfully ran G4WL disabler

- Attempted to run Archive Invalidation Invalidated, but it couldn't find my FALLOUT.INI file because I hadn't run the game.

- Ran the game just to the menu, exited.

- Archive Invalidation successfully executed.

- Ran the game and started a character, saved at beginning of birthday party and exited.

- Adjusted my Load Order according to Black Rampage's suggestions in one of my previous posts.

- Ran game and loaded my save, got "some objects may be missing" message. Prolly not a big deal because. . .

- Got outside and so far, everything looks good! All custom mods and textures seem to be in place!

Just thought I'd share this in case others are considering a big move like this. I hope it will be helpful! Now, back to the Wasteland! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Congrats!! I hope you wrote everything down so when you do it again you'll have it right with you.

Good point! I didn't write down all the steps, but I could always come back to this post as long as the forums exist. Aside from that, I've got enough experience with the mods to know what needs to be installed and in what order, especially since I goofed it so bad the first time around! That mistake made me realize that I needed to have those three mod programs ready to go once I had the vanilla version patched up to 1.7. After that, it was a fairly simple process.

Ah yes. I had been wondering whether you had read that. (And made the suggested changes.)

Hmmm. Fonger is indeed right about using Wrye Bash to find what mods were active in that save, but if that save is from your previous system without the previously suggested changes to your load order, then don't. Just make a new save and the warning message will be gone.

Anyway; good hunting!

I decided not to import any of my old saved games because I wanted to start a new game. Partly because I'd downloaded and installed the vast majority of my mods and textures about halfway through my last game and I wanted to see them from the start, and partly because since I had installed the game on my D drive and not the C drive, I wasn't sure where to put the save games. I just started a new character and saved at the birthday party to make sure that the game was stable.

I'm not sure what "objects may be missing", but they can only be from inactive mods that I permanently deleted from my Load Order according to your suggestions. I'm sure they won't be missed. Even if I find out later that I need one, I can always re-install!

So psyched that I worked it out!
