KFC

We've been trying for years but yesterday was the last straw with KFC. Short of ordering just a Coke for lunch or dinner, we haven't found anything at this chain that doesn't give us stomach and digestion problems. A quick glance at their ingredients list explains it I think.

Remember your mom's mashed potatoes & gravy? Mash up some cooked potatoes, throw in a bit of milk, butter and salt, top with some pan drippings from your beef or chicken and you're done. Well here's what happens when mashed potatoes & gravy are put through today's filter of modern corporate America. No joke, we just copied it from KFC's site:

I've never had a problem with KFC and love the food. If you want more of what you desire you might try Boston Market if you have one in your neighborhood. It takes a little longer, but the food is ever so much wholesome.

On the whole I like what's been going on the last few years with our food producers and processors, e.g. more supermarket items are crap-free and I see a lot more organic and minimally processed stuff on the shelves etc compared to 10 or 20 years ago. But apparently nobody has informed the fast food industry. I mean other than In-N-Out Burger. :)

It's been a point of contention in our house because one of us is like Rabbit 51, he really loves their chicken, has no problem digesting it and insists on going a few times every month. So the rest of us are stuck trying to figure out what to order to not get sick. We're down to corn on the cob and sodas.

In the interest of fairness I'll add that the above ingredient list is actually several lists back to back. Apparently the recipes vary by location and franchise agreement, and they've listed all possible recipes for all items. It's still a mind-numbing (literally) brew of Monsanto heaven imo.

I've about had it with any fast food, and while KFC has never given me... the... Okay the point is I have had a regular bad experience with them, but at a certain location the staff was just incredibly rude. It went something like this, going through the drive-thru...

*you sit there for about 30 seconds*

"Can I take your order? (not a pleasant tone)

"Yes, I would like the buffalo chicken tenders meal w-"

"What to drink?"

"Um... Coke would be fine. But I would like that meal with-"

"$12.95 drive around"

I'm not joking. It gets worse than that but there is more. One time, my brother and I pulled up into the drive through, and this is what we hear coming through the speaker...

"Man I wish these people'd go on somewhere. Can you believe dat b&@*$ wanted ketchup with that s#*!? Who'd'ell wants ketchup with their mashed potatoes? Dafug you say go one somewhere, woman!"

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhh.... :P
