[PC]Fallout 4 keeps crashing?

For some reason this game has been giving me a lot of issues lately. I made a post on other sites a few days ago about an odd FPS drop that occurred when I would play for about an hour. Then all of a sudden my game started crashing. So at first it happened a rarely, and now every 5-10 minutes. I thought it had to be mods, so I tried disabling all of them and testing with certain mods, etc. but it happens even with all mods disabled. I tried verifying the integrity of the game files, but that didn't work. Anyone know what I can try? Do I need to reinstall the game or something? Also, I have my game on a SSD, but the mods are on a different drive to save SSD space. Is that an issue even though the game crashes with mods all disabled?

PC SPECS

-i7 7700k (liquid cooled)

-GTX 1080ti FTW3

-Samsung SSD (fallout 4 is on here alone)

-windows 10

I had same issue, week ago when I'd launch the game with mods enabled it sometimes didnt load and instantly went to "Fallout 4 Has stopped working".

So i started disabling some mods, same thing

So I tried dis installing all mods, same thing,

Tried re downloading F4SE same thing

So then I deleted everything that didn't come with Fallout 4, F4Se, enbs, etc launched Via steam, same thing

Deleted Ini.s verify integrity, launched fallout 4 through, same thing

Theres a running pattern here.

Hell i Caved in and updated Windows 10, Still didn't work.

I moved my Fallout 4 to my HDD (off my SSD) Still not working here.

Then I completely deleted everything, installed to my HDD, loaded up the game, Still crashing instantly.

Enabled the profile in AMD catalyst didn't work, updating GPU Drivers didnt work...

I've done pretty much everything and it just crashes on start-up everytime, and this only started happening AFTER the 1.10.40 Update.

EDIT: This game has a sense of humor, It seems MSI Afterburner was causing everything to crash

Wow that is really annoying. I am having another problem now. When ever I put my F4SE on my start tab, im getting multiple buttons for it. I have 3 f4se buttons there and its really annoying.

Been using MSI Afterburner for 17 years and never had a problem with it in any game, including FO4. I've always used it on its own, i.e. without its Riva Tuner Statistics Server. I only started to use the latter for its added screenshot function when I started on Mass Effect: Andromeda which has no decent screenshot function.

Must add I stopped playing FO4 in May and haven't got the last update of the game. But I'm pretty sure if and when you delete the Riva Tuner part that everything will be A-okay since it is the RT which constantly stays in contact with some server which can cause problems.

@ Chaldo102 .... you have a good rig and I used MSI afterburner before with my Nvidia 1070 and I did not have any problem ... however, I guess that you are trying to overclock your video card and my recommendation is that instead using MSI afterburner, buy a 144 Hz monitor and you will have better performance results.

Regarding CTD's I only have one suggestion : go nuke ... yes I know, it is PITA but sometimes necessary to start from scratch and fresh. I've done it before and for me, it has been the best solution. After defining what mods I wanted to play with, and after using practically the same list, I have a very steady game and the only CTD's I am getting are related to WOTC ( War of the Commonwealth mod ) which is a very heavy mod and by the author, CTD' should be expected so I am ok by having one once in a while; other than that, I do not have any CTD but .... again, I have testing every single mod that I use for a very long time and I follow certain rules that help me to avoid CTD's, like not changing the load order constantly, not adding new mods or deleting mods mid game ( and if I add, I just leave them at the very bottom of the load order ), etc, etc.

... there are a lot of things that you can do but I would say that the most important of all, is to define what mods you want to play with and be discipline, stick to them for your entire play through and do not delete any of them or change load order ( via LOOT or manually ) or add anything ( except to the bottom of your load order ). If you want to learn more about this, watch the video located in the WOTC ( description page ) and you will learn a lot about what to do.

Hi

Before "going nuke" test with a different save or new save. CTDs can get into a save & may not be in the game. I have even gone back to older saves to fix a chronic CTD issues.

This game is a bit strange when disabling mods. You can only test with a new character save for the results to be worth while.

For example I added a mod that put DLC monsters in the commonwealth. I did not like it so I removed it. Months later I am still seeing the DLC monsters. Also on the same save I added a mod that made all settlers female. I removed it. All new settlers spawned on that save are still all female. There are consequences to removing mods from games. Some are just annoying & others can trash your game.

Check your temps even with water cooling. My modded game runs 15c hotter than the vanilla game. This creeped up over time.
