Problem Duplicating bookshelves... CK freezes

Hi.

I hate bookshelves but finally decided to put a couple into my mod. The problem is that CK freezes and crashes whenever I try to use CTRL_D to duplicate a bookshelf (static shelf, bookmarkers, containers, triggers and collision plane)

I've seen posts elsewhere (Bethesda.net) about this problem but nobody writing in with a solution.

I thought at first it was because I had multiple masters loaded, but trying to copy a vanilla bookshelf with only skyrim loaded crashed the kit too. Waiting after pressing CTRL_D makes no difference. I just get the spinning blue cursor endlessly. At that point clicking in a dialogue window or the render window gives the dreaded 'The application is not responding...' warning.

I can select and move the bookcase, it's only duplicating it that causes the freeze. I can select entire rooms with far more objects than the bookcase and duplicate them without a problem... just not one piddly bookcase!

Does anybody know a fix for this? Maybe something in the ini file?

Edit: I've just copied the vanilla bookshelf in Breezehome, using CK 32-bit on Oldrim, complete with all the links to xmarkers... not a problem. Everything selected, duplicated and moved in seconds! This is just a problem with CK 64-bit.

Edit 2: Just moving the bookshelf, markers etc is tedious in CK 64-bit. you have to click on the selected items and pause for a few seconds before trying to move it. Same with rotate. In CK 32-bit, there's no lag noticeable when moving or rotating a complete bookshelf. Also using undo when the bookcase is selected crashes the kit.

i had the same problem the other day. I did my first library and it done my head in placing every single book marker. everytime I went to duplicate either by alt clicking or by highlighting and pressing Ctrl + D I found the ck crashed. I did notice though if I highlighted what I want to duplicate then wait a few minutes I could alt click then click duplicate. but then I had to wait for the duplication to appear. sometimes it happened straight away and other times I had to wait again a few minutes. during which time I couldn't touch anything or the ck would crash. I hope that helps, if not try restarting your pc I found that helped when I went to duplicate other items

Sorry for the late answers. Yes I've tried CTRL_C followed by CTRL_V... same result.

Unfortunately no matter how long I wait doesn't matter. I left the computer on while I had a meal but came back to see the inevitable spinning circle! I've done two bookshelves for the place (108 books) and that'll have to do for now.

good that's got to be a b&@*$. I'm on my first mod and so far have loved every minute of it that is until I came to the library after two days of pulling my hair out trying to get the dummy books placed, I tried duplicating copying and pasting, I had the crash issue the same as you have said, but I just had to highlight the object, wait a few minutes alt click and click duplicate (found CTRL + D would crash the ck no matter what) then I had to wait for a few minutes and let the duplicate item names appear in the list of objects in the cell and then I could copy them, unfortunately I still had to spend a good couple of hours linking everything up but atleast I didn't have to place the dummy books.

I hope you have some luck finding a work around, doing a library is annoying enough with out being able to copy and paste

I am gonna throw a few basic CK related troubleshooting ideas and hopefully one of them sticks. I personally have 3 bookshelves in my own house mod so I would love to help you out because bookshelves are really quite amazing and satisfying to have in your game.

I seem to recall, however, that the great modder Elianora herself once ran into the exact same problem when SSE first came out. So you are not alone.

First... have you tried running CK as the Administrator?

Yes I tried running as administrator... no joy.

I'm guessing that since the problem doesn't seem to be common, that it must be to do with my set-up somehow. Also since it works no problem in the 32-bit version I'm assuming that it's nothing to do with my machine spec, unless 64-bit uses more memory to perform this action. I have 16 GB of DDR2 ram and use the AMD FX8350 bulldozer. All on Windows 7. My settings are always for maximum performance. I'll try running task manager while selecting a bookcase and look at the results in that, though.

Edit: I just did that and whilst the cpu sits around 25%, memory usage is at 7GB with creation kit open, this internet connection open and task manager running. trying to copy the bookcase causes this to ramp up over a period of 30 seconds or so until memory usage hits 100% It then just sits there using all the memory available. I say 'all' of the memory but 4.6 GB is cached, 4.6GB is 'standby' but never seems to get used. Anyway, trying to copy a bookshelf just results in an ever increasing use of memory until there's none left.

Don't copy and past more than one shelf full of triggers (say the top shelf). To my knowledge there isn't a shortcut to doing bookshelves. You just have to do the work. But once you have one shelf you can duplicate it and move it. You will still have to link up all the triggers manually. This is something that took me a bit to figure out too. The quick way is to just use bookcases. But trying to select a whole bookshelf and all the triggers will make the CK lag for a very long time. Edited by TheWilloughbian
