Is it possible to install the game more than once on your system?

The reason I ask is because I'm not that windows savvy! I'm a Mac guy but, I use windows for gaming and, modding. I would like to have a clean game install to build my mod and, another for playing the game. I want to add mods like "The Requiem for the Capital Waste" but, I'm afraid it would cause issues while working on my mods. (I don't want to accidentally use or, tie into assets that I'm not allowed to share.)

My goal is to have a "game setup for modding", another "game setup for playing the games!" Which I could freely add other peoples mods to without worrying about my mod. I would like to do this for both FO3 and, FNV, I have more than enough hard drive space to install both games multiple times but, I haven't figured out how to do it if it's at all possible.

When I trie to do another install to a different directory the installer only asks if I want to uninstall.

thanks in advance for any help,

chuck

Assuming it is through steam you can simply create a backup and switch between the two folders. If you want the clean install just drag your modded folder somewhere else and drop in the other one into the proper place within your steam folder. Than just do a quick 'verify game integrity of game cache' check and it should be fine to play. The same should apply for regular windows directories though I would assume you would want to install it outside of the UAC secure folders.

First,

"Assuming it is through steam you can simply create a backup and switch between the two folders!"

I'm not trying to beat any DRM or, Steam in any way! I own the game licenses, bought them legitimately! The moderators here know me, we may not have always ben on the best terms but, they know I'm not a thief or a pirate! http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/pirate.gif

Next, you've only told me it is possible, not how to pull it off! Well I'm glad your more knowledgeable them me but, I wouldn't be asking a question if I knew how to do it. Would I! Could you please explain to me how I can make a copy of my game, switch between them when I choose. I do know how to verify my game integrity but, how do I drag and drop folders with such a simple non replacer/copy/overwrite as you mentioned.

I only run windows for gaming so I've turned my UAC off, UAC is a stupid concept in my opinion!

please help,

chuck

yes he did

here are detailed instructions

Assuming it is through steam you can simply create a backup and switch between the two folders. If you want the clean install just drag your modded folder somewhere else and drop in the other one into the proper place within your steam folder.

and it does nothing to bypass steam security systems

I don't know how you took my post as me accusing you of being a pirate  . I was just saying if you purchased the games through steam it is much easier to have two different copies that you can switch between as I do that with my game files and it is not abnormal for people buy their games on steam. Fonger split the text up a bit so there shouldn't be a need for more explanation but if you still need a bit of help with it I could assist you further. I think if you read over my initial post again and follow exactly what I said it will be much more clear. Maybe you were tired when reading it last night and interpreted part of it offensively and skimmed through the rest. With the amount of posts and kudos you have the thought of you being a pirate didn't even cross my mind.
