Deleted49203528User
I'm new to PC gaming and I want to buy some games from GOG like FO3 and want to use the (UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch) . I've noticed that GOG have fixed many of their older games to run on modern OS's. Well I'm assuming that many people here have been PC gaming for many years and probably most are playing the Steam version of games. My question is are these unofficial patches will work with the GOG versions just as well as the Steam versions ? and what about mods, same question as above ? Thanks Edited December 4, 2017 by Guest
HeyYou
Mods should work just fine on gog versions. I don't know about script extenders though, does gog encrypt the executable files???
Deleted1205226User
I have a retail version (bought at the time) and a GOG version of fallout 3.Both work fine with the Unofficial patch as well as with the script extender (Fose).Installation is straight forward and can be done outside of the Program Files (as recommended) without hassle.Actually, the GOG version is the most stable of all, it comes with the 4Gb already enabled and so does the Geck shipped along, so there is no need for exe manipulation.I use mods and build ones without problem. Deleted49203528User
Not sure what script extenders are, but I just want to know if all unofficial patches and mods should work with both Steam and GOG versions 99% of the time ?
iXenite
Not sure what script extenders are, but I just want to know if all unofficial patches and mods should work with both Steam and GOG versions 99% of the time ? Before you even think about modding, you need to learn how to mod your game. You're obviously inexperienced, as we've all been at some point. I highly suggest you learn about how to mod your game and what all these things actually doing to your game and why before you start throwing files into your games Data folder. You'll end up with a ruined game and disappointment if you try to do that. Trust me - I know from my own experience. I will link a fairly up to date modding guide for Fallout 3. It's from a very solid tutorial creator, it should get you well on your way. Just so you know, when it comes to FOSE - that script extender has its own link for GOG versions. When you go to the FOSE website you should be able to tell immediately which one is for GOG copies of the game. To answer you question about the Unofficial Patch plainly, the answer is yes. It does work with the GOG copy the same way it would work with the Steam version or even the original disc version of the game. This has already been answered by another poster in this thread, which actually brings me to another lesson of modding: reading. It's incredibly important that you pay attention and actually read things. If you have no desire to screw up your game, reading is crucial. Deleted1205226User
Excellent advices from DaddyDirection! Indeed, PC modding is a little more complicated than console modding. The more you learn and understand upfront, the bigger the satisfaction.Good luck!
