NMM disables some of my mods when I close it and reopen it

As stated in the title, Nexus Mod Manager disables some mods that I really want and only those mods, every time I close the manager and reopen it. This has probably been answered before but I've tried some things and nothing has worked. I've tried running as administrator and uninstalling and reinstalling the mods affected. Should I just activate the mods and then just launch Skyrim SE from there every time? The mods that have been affected so far are Total Character Makeover and Pride of Valhalla Skin Super HD Skin Set. I really want those two mods in my game but they're always disabled by the time I close nexus mod manager

You do not tell us how you know that they are disabled. :)

Remember that not all mods have .esp or .esm files, and those are the only files which show up in your load order. Texture mods, for example, often don't have an .esp. The skin mod may not have an .esp file since it's only a texture. I did download and check Total Character Makeover, and it's only meshes and textures. There is no .esp for that mod. So, once the mods are installed, they just work.

Hope this helps out. :)

I know it is disabled because it shows a red circle with a cross through it. Thanks for your help, I'm not very good at understanding these things. I don't see any difference in the game when I use it.

It sometimes happens that for some unfathomable reason, after having installed a mod, NMM shows a red, barred circle in front of the mod instead of the green tick. I've been having it quite a bit with larger texture mods (without a plug-in) lately. I went to fetch the latest update for NMM (not yet shown as a download option here on the Nexus, despite the update being available since mid October) and haven't had that issue since.

When downloading, choose the top (exe) file.

Can't tell of course if the update solved anything or that it's just coincidence.

Thanks a lot, I'll try that out when I get the chance
