disable/re-enable generic NPCs

Is there a way to put "schedules" on NPCs so that they are disabled at a certain time at night?

I'm trying to add generic npc villagers to different towns with the default "sandbox" AI packages just to breathe more life into the towns, but they seem to go 24/7 (so for example you can still see villagers working at 3:00 am as though it were afternoon).

Nothing too fancy, I just want to be able to disable them at (say) 8pm and then re-enable them at 8 am the next morning, on a continuous loop.

Thanks in advance

Make a new AI package that has them use their linked item (in your case you'd want to make it a bed somewhere) at a given time. Each NPC will have to be linked to a different bed individually and manually.

For ex.

Thx for answering, I'll take a closer look at this when I get a chance later this week.

Seems to be a bit of a pain in the butt to have to manually direct each and every NPC to a bed somewhere. I looked into that option before but it seemed way too much work for the simple nature of what I was trying to do.

I was hoping there would be something to simply "poof" them out of existence for nighttime and re-enable them at daytime.

Look at the AI scripts for some of the NPC's in the game. Check out the staff help in Dragonsreach for a good example. They go sleep in their beds at night and work in the castle during the day. You can copy their scripts (be sure and rename them) and link them to your locations.

Make sure you change the scripts' references to your residence, otherwise those Dragonsreach scripts will take your NPCs to Dragonsreach for bed every night! :P Man, that Yarl sure does command a lot of loyalty... lol

The problem with creating scripts for them to "go to sleep" in the town is that if I am adding (say) a dozen new villagers to a town like Rorikstead, it means I would have to make new npc houses with a dozen different beds for them to all sleep in which is a giant pain.

I'm just looking for a way to add more flavour to the background in villages like this without putting in too much work...

  • 4 weeks later...

I would recommend against the "poofing" method because it would be easy to loot the town while they are gone and vampires need sleeping people to feed off.

I disagree. If he just wants more life to a town, Enable/Disable works great.

I see it more as visitors coming to do business in town. They really have no Dialogue or Quests, they just add realism to towns.

It is a lot more complexe to give Extras beds and homes.

I hope you figure this out so I can work it into my MODS.
