blackninja50
Has anyone noticed that it seems everything is being remade for mobile phones? You tube, the nexus, google chrome, opera hell even windows 10 is specifically made for tablets and phones. And not just being made to support it made so it sucks on desktop. I know there are twice as many phones as humans and people spend around 50% of there life looking at a phone but it's not like desktops are a rare unused item. A lot of old fashioned people like me still use them a lot. As an old geezer of 25 that has always used a mouse & keyboard, thinks phones are for calling my family and playing some music. I am getting vary sick of all thes non functional, visually overloading and disorganised UIs ment to be looked at with a vertical tinny touch screen. Part of me wants to go back in time and murder steve jobs before he made the first iphone. Maybe then there would be web browsers actually made for a desktop with actual bookmark mangers and UIs that don't require a day of scrolling to find anything. Hell maybe a modern OS that is actually meant for a desktops. Don't mind me i'll be dead and forgotten in a few years anyway.
HeyYou
Various folks have been predicting the death of desktop computers for years now. Windows 8 was a 'sure sign' of it. (If I wanted a tablet operating system, I would have bought a tablet......) Windows 10 moved away from that a bit, but, with various options, you can make it work just like a tablet. (assuming you have a touch screen.....) Still and all, it's not nearly as bad as 8, or 8.1...... MS REALLY screwed the pooch there. But yeah, everyone is catering to mobile devices, mainly because there ARE so many of them. I don't see desktops dying off anytime soon though. Too many cool games that you need real hardware to run. (though, Skyrim on the switch may point to a future trend.......)
Mudran
I'm not fan of smart phones too - they are too big for pockets and I don't like that feature with touching the screen. Maybe it is because nothing can beat Nokia 7373 - I'm forever in love with that design. And also maybe because I feel sick when watching something while travelling, so I have no use for tablets. So I also hope that there will be always classic phones.
Mudran
And about that redesign - it looks to me a bit strange too - like a box design, but today someone showed me a mobile design of some game application and it wasn't "boxy" at all - it was looking really good, not just smaller version of webpage and their webpage doesn't look like made for mobiles at all, so I guess it is not about mobiles, but about what is "modern". RGMage2
I do love my smart phone, it's great when you're away from home and find you have some time to kill - it's an instant cure for boredom. And the old Nexus was really terrible on the phone and did desperately need something done to it. That said, my smart phone will never be more than a poor substitute for my desktop. Let me put it this way, right now I am sitting in a comfortable armchair viewing these forums and typing this post. I could be doing it on my smart phone, but why would I when I can have my wireless keyboard on my lap, my wireless mouse at my side, and viewing it all on a 55inch ultra HD on the other side of the room? And when it comes to gaming, some things never change, bigger really is better. I'm old school, but I am open to new ideas. I understand the need to upgrade the site for mobile, and while the new site might not be optimal for desktops, it is certainly no where near as bad as the old site was on mobile. I think the important thing going forward from here is to not lose track of the reality that as long as the games supported by Nexus are mostly going to be for desktop, then a significant percentage of visitors to Nexus will continue to be on desktop. Given a choice I would have stayed with the old site, but I don't have any major issue with the new design. I do think there is a lack of focus in some areas. News in particular. Pictures don't make me want to read, headlines do.
