That's actualy incorrect, that would be a RUF RT12s or RGT.

Both are substantialy more powerful than the CTR and use an R/R layout.

I'd actualy go something Japanese Heyou, maybe a nismo RB26 engine, it's good for 400+ horsepower tuned correctly, but it's very light, much lighter than an LS series. V-8s are great fun, but I just don't know if the DeLorean's archeic platform could handle that sort of mass and power. A battery electric might actualy rectify the weight shift issues though, if you put the batteries in the front, under that massive front trunk, you'd hopefully ballast-out the weight issues.

I did a little perusing into the "New Build" program and it does kinda hint that there will be an option for better performance engine. I just don't know what they will be.

Still, if I did get one, I wonder if when I get pulled over for speeding (assuming the new build will allow for high performance), would the line "I'm sorry officer, but I need to return to 1955 to stop my mother from marrying Biff." work? Maybe it would land me in the "Hospital"

Still, if I did get one, I would probably get an original. Basically just for a collectible. Plus, if I drove it (on rare occasions), in my town, it would cause quite a few heads to turn.

That might just work, if you get pulled over by a cop with a sense of humor.

When officer friendly asked me "Do you know why I pulled you over?", I responded: "I suspect you think I was making too much progress.".... The cop looked at me funny for a second, burst out laughing, told me to slow down, and let me go on my way.

Just buy a DeLorean, or a Fiero. You'll never get a speeding ticket again.

For a time, it seemed I had an uncanny ability to get a speeding ticket in just about anything I drove....... For my vacation one year.... I drove my 1981 Chevy Luv 4x4 to Florida, and back. A trip of approximately 2500 miles..... I was less than 20 miles from home, and yep, you guessed it.... got a speeding ticket......

Well, I've gotten a speeding ticket in a Land Rover Defender(110) , that's an achievement.

It wasn't for reckless speeding either-I actualy didn't see a speed sign that told me that the limit was briefly down to 70 from 80(for about two kilometres) and got booked by an automated camera.

For those unfamiliar with the D110, it's essentialy a British take on the army jeep. A medium-sized SUV designed for military use, they're renowned for being some of the most indestructible cars on the planet, but also slow and rather unadorned. With such feartures as a plughole under the seats, and a vynil and rubber interior(so you can hose it out), a "scuffboard" for cleaning the mud off your boots, three spare tyres, over a foot of ground clearance, and a nigh unstoppable V-8 engine, it's a serious off-roader and virtualy unmatched as a desert-basher. The problem is, the D110's closest automotive relative is a tractor, and it shares a number of desgin features with tractors, and while this endows it with stump-pulling torque, the gear ratios required to climb a steep slope also make it a tortoise rather than a hare.

Wow. It's been a long time since I've seen so much incorrect information about DeLoreans, all in one place. I wouldn't be surprised if the next poster claims that the body is aluminum and not stainless steel.

These "new builds" are not new cars. They are simply restorations. There will not be any new DeLoreans made, which means you will not likely see more on the road that you do now. DMC Houston has been taking an existing DeLorean, tearing it down to the frame, and then putting it together with unused, original parts, or improved parts. They do not make new cars from scratch, but have a warehouse full of parts that were never used when DMC went under back in the early 80s that they use to put cars back together. If you were to buy one of these "new builds," you still title it as an '81, '82, or '83, depending on what the original car was titled as, and you don't get a zero odometer car. You are not buying a 2012 DeLorean. When you restore a car, you don't get to start the odometer over again. Same goes with these restorations.

Other information that needs to be corrected: the DeLorean motor was a 2.8 PRV V6. For more information on the motor, you can look it up on wikipedia, or here

This motor was an aluminum block, naturally aspirated, and an overall solid motor. It may not be the fastest car on the road, but it was not too bad for 80s standards. The DeLorean was lighter than the Corvette and Ferrari, weighing in at around 2800 lbs. The zero to 60 time was 0.5 seconds slower than the Vette and 0.7 seconds slower than the Ferrari 308 GTSi. None of those cars were burning up the track with those times. This belief that that the DeLorean was incredibly slow compared to the competition is false. Although it was slower, it was not too far behind the other "performance" cars of its day. The DeLorean is more of a cruising car anyway, so you just have to look at it for what it is.
