What is the current status of SKSEx64?

It's away on a fishing trip.

Still in alpha and still working, though not firing on all cylinders yet due to still being in alpha. Meanwhile, quite a few mods that needed SKSE in Skyrim no longer need SKSE64 in SSE. Downside is that a lot of those mods have lost certain functionalities because of having been adapted to work without script extender.

It is still in Alpha, but that doesn't say anything.

Alpha, Beta, RC etc. are just labels given by the developer to indicate a development status. They all do not say anything about stability and performance.Usually Alpha means that the release is not feature complete, may contain serious bugs that can cause total crashes of the software or the entire OS and can contain debug code (code snipets that generally add tons and tons of debug information to the log files and handle certain exceptions).

There is software out there that is more stable, complete and reliable in Alpha State, than other programs in their final release state. And here we come to SKSE64. I am using it since a few hundred hours play-time and i have no issues with it whatsoever. Apart from the occasional CTD the game is stable (a lot more stable than the old Skyrim), and the crashes are more where one knows the game will crash and they are founded in Bethesda's fantastic programming. So basically the crashes are not SKSE's fault and would happen regardless if you have SKSE installed or not.

The best thing you can do is to install it and play with it. If you don't notice any strange behaviour everything is fine. As said, i don't have issues with SKSE, it works, it's stable and the mods i am using with SKSE Support are working as well.

I had to drop it, as it was not working with Frostfall w/out doing a lot of 'gymnastics'. I was told it was just " fixing " some INI files, but I get nervous making too many INI changes.

I read their site and they made it quite clear: NO SUPPORT IS BEING OFFERED. Which I totally understand .. but when I see some MAIN MODS not going to SKSE64 yet ... ( Like Frostfall and a couple of other main mods, again for the simple reason as stated above. It's not really " Prime Time Ready ". )

It's definitely not ready for regular play. I've tried converting my own mods and some work, others have problems, and a few don't work at all because the functions they need are completely broken. Some people are thinking that because SkyUI appears to be working it must be OK, but the developers were using SkyUI to test it so of course those parts are working. It's the other functions that SkyUI doesn't use that haven't received all of the care and attention they need. And there are still problems with event registrations and the co-saves that should scare any sensible people away from using it for anything other than testing.

If you're the type of person who starts a new character each week go ahead and try it, but if you're the type who likes to keep playing the same character for years then adding SKSE64 to your game right now is a very bad idea.

I downloaded it 4 days ago and so far so good ... what are you waiting for ? Time to give it a shot !!

Are you using: Frostfall? and yes I can mention a few other mods that do NOT work with yet ..... and some of the mod creators are " not going there, until it's out of Alpha ".

So yes, what Mods are you using??

Because I know a number of mods that are indeed not able to be used.

Worked fine yesterday, today, a no go. SSE more trouble than it's worth!

Welcome to the Reality Club. I too tried it, I did. Found out, I had to restart my whole game over - because it is ALPHA not even Beta .... It's not worth it, 2/b honest.

Sorry you found out the hard way, I truly am. As I too, was told " it's good to go ... " Ya, ... not so much. "
