worthlesspeppermint
Hi, I'm Tori. The last time I posted on these forums [or even played Skyrim seriously] I had a non-gaming rig with gaming video card and let's just say it was total crapshoot. Thankfully since then I've upgraded. I did a bit of research on gaming pcs, but in no matter how hard I try to understand how to hard-core gaming- I still feel clueless. My first graphic card [the one BEFORE the 960] died because of overheating/overpowering so I know that I NEVER want that to happen again. I can honestly say I've learned how to care for a pc more appropriately since then; even if deep down I'm a complete noob when it comes to stuff like this. I can honestly say I think I have a powerful rig- or at least I tried to get a powerful rig when I bought this. In all honesty, I'm super paranoid about my computer since burning out that first graphics card, and I really don't want to take any chances. I've looked around the internet for clues to help me keep it safe for a long-term period of time; sadly, I'm still a bit confused. But I won't ramble any more than I have to. I was wondering if some kind gamer could help me regulate whether or not heavy graphic/texture mods will ruin my rig. So far, I've been able to have a lot of the 'fps' intensive mods work with little loss- the game looks beautiful, but I'm terrified of frying it. I would be more than happy if anyone could give me tips on how to keep it safe with heavy-modding, and whether or not I need to cut down on my modlist. I really don't know where else to turn! Some information you should probably know: GeForce GTX 1070Intel Core i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz16GB RamWindows 10 If you need anything else, please let me know. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!
jjb54
This should easily handle Skyrim SE. NOTE: Do not go " hog crazy " with Mods ... Skyrim has a limit of 250, though some say they have " pushed it ". Your " rig " will tell you if it can handle the 200 Mark ... that is actually where people start to have ' issues '. Also - make sure you check the MOD REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY. But - before you go into MODS, just play the vanilla game first, to get a feel for it and where you think you would like to go with the game .... :) HAVE FUN. Thank you so much for answering this so quickly! Also, you answered another question I was wondering about- I wasn't sure if Skyrim SE had the same limit of '250' mods as the old skyrim. And okay, good to know! And yeah! You caught me, I've never actually finished the main quest since I'm horrible at following directions. I have played Vanilla Skyrim quite a bit- it was a blast! Still, I"ll keep my cool on with the mods! Thanks again! :D

JimmyRJump
The limit for mods with a plug-in is actually 255. Texture replacer mods usually don't have a plug-in (an esp or esm file; esp is Elder Scrolls Plug, esm is Elder Scrolls Master) and can be installed a go-go. I'm currenthly running 398 mods of which 247 have a plug-in. Six weeks ago I ran the game with 366 mods of which 255 had a plug-in. Not a single problem, bar the occasional CTD for no good reason and without consequences, which seems to be inherent to SSE. So far, 300 hours into my curent play-through, I've had three crashes without apparent issues and the game rebooted and continued afterward in a normal fashion.
