ok, well basically the mage-crafter Kagrenac created Sunder, Keening, and Wraithguard 2 wield them. he planned 2 use them 2 tap the heart of lorkhan 2 make the dwemer's own artificial god, Numidium. however, when Kagrenac used the tools upon the heart of lorkhan, something went wrong. the entire dwemer race instantly disappeared, and Yagrum Bagarn reckons that they might have ascended 2 an "outer realm" in other words outside of reality as Tamriel knows it. possibly ascended 2 god-like status. if u look around Bamz-Amschend in Mournehold u'll see a number of ash piles. it seems that they were instantly vaporised where they stood as soon as Kagrenac struck the heart.

so basically, thats what happened.

when i found all that out in morrowind i though....I smell a sequel.....

it would make a good plot line. and very expansive, b/c we have no idea what this outer realm is like.

on second thought, i smell a mod project.....

Bring back the dwarves! :D

I think in one of the later Mages Guild quests you're sent to find out what happened.

I'm with you Death_Penalty, sequel! That would be an excellent sequel travelling to another realm and seeing, or fighting, the dwarves. I think Bethesda could push out another Morrowind expansion.

Massive spoilers!

According to our good old Telvanni in Arvs-Drelen (gnisis), it was unfashionable amoung the Dwemer to view themselves as inferior constructs three, four, or forty grades below the divine. So, they planned to tap the heart of Lorkan, which they discovered with massive digging for residences, to make themselves into gods -- it wasn't the construction of Numidium that destroyed them, as they dissapeared right after the battle of Red Mountain. Indeed, Numidium was constructed and used as a massive weapon by Tiber Septim (aka General Talos) during the unification of Tamriel into the Empire that precipitated the First Age. It was powered by the energy of his mighty Battlemage, who later betrayed him to become the Underking. Anyway, when Kangrenac, chief magecrafter of House Dwemer (the seventh house), attempted to use the Heart of Lorkan to give the Dwarves immortality, they so offended the gods that they were all destroyed and cast into some non-space -- Yagrum Bagarn, the last living Dwarf, says that he never saw them even on their forays into outer space. It was their tampering and attempt to translate the sacred from the deaths of the profane using Kangrenac's tools that most likely caused them to be kicked out of not this plane, but out of very existence.

What *really* happened, though, is some Bethesda programmer thought Dwarves were lame and hit the "delete" button. ;-P

Anyone notice how the Ash Vampires and Dagoth Ur look incredibly similar to Dwemer...?

That always made me wonder, expecially since the visions and prophecies, etc., generally are interpreted with ambiguity when there is a reference to House Dagoth and/or House Dwemer.

Maybe in his own experiments with the Heart, Dagoth Ur tapped into the Dwemer (whatever and wherever they are).

His Akulakahn plan seems similar to the Numidium, after all... maybe the Dwemer were somehow behind the scenes, or in some way influenced Dagoth Ur?
