HeyYou
Considering some of the things they have made into movies, not sure just how much of a vote that really is any more....
ita
About 9500 people died when the Wilhelm Gustloff was sunk and no one remembers or cares. The Doña Paz sank with over 4000 dead as recently as in 1987 and no one remembers or cares. Funny how things work sometimes.

shotgun188
And were they the best ship in the world at their time? Also, I'm pretty sure the Titanic is still bigger than almost every(if not every)boat ever made. Edited April 16, 2012 by shotgun188
ita
You're right, we shouldn't care about people and loss of lives, only gross register tonnage.

ita
I've heard that the Titanic was actually advertised as "virtually unsinkable" i.e. nearly unsinkable i.e. just as unsinkable as the next boat.

I just said that the Titanic was hyped up for things like that before-hand so EVERYONE heard about it. It was the biggest ship ever and it was advertised as being unsinkable. Not only did the biggest ship ever(that was unsinkable) sink but it sank on it's first journey and many very well-known people died. Those factors is what made the Titanic very well known, a long with several movies.
Fonger
the Hood was much more famous that most people remember it was the "flag" ship of the British navy the one that carried the British flag around the world Biggest . . . Best . . . and blithered in one encounter That's how news is made
ita
I never said that. Well technically you didn't say much else than Titanic being the largest ship of its time, but whatever floats your boat.
