FO3 GECK Trouble

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to download the GECK for Fallout 3 but it's just not working. I download the GECK and the 1.5 update, when I download them my only option is to save file. So I save them both to my desktop. I then double click the InstallShield Wizard and my options are to Modify, Repair and Remove. Repairing and Modifying both do nothing so I Remove and then It lets me install. When I install it I set the Location of the GECK to go to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 because I have the steam version of FO3. Once I install it I go to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 and click on the GECK it tells me libvorbisfile.dll and libogg.dll was not found.

How do I get past this?

I'm not sure if this matters but when I click on the 1.5 update it tells me the Old File does not exist...

Moved this from the Site "Feedback, suggestions and questions" forum to the one for FO3 technical issues. --TNL

Impugn - Hello!

The trouble seems to be because you have a STEAM version & GECK is getting installed in the wrong folder.

I don't have a STEAM version but the very problem you mention is listed at the official GECK site here:

http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Bethsoft_Tutorial_GECK_Setup

Odd thing is, they say it should be in:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3

too.......

Libvorbisfile.dll & libvorbis.dll should be in your Fallout 3 folder, the same place that holds your Data folder, that's where GECK should be installed.

Check out that official page & follow their instructions, they do give an alternative location I think.

Hope this helps!

It appears that you have downloaded the wrong copy of the G.E.C.K. libvorbisfile.dll and libvorbis.dll are Fallout New Vegas files and you will never find them in your Fallout3 directory. Uninstall the copy of the G.E.C.K. that you have and go back and get the correct copy.

M48A5 - Hello!

"It appears that you have downloaded the wrong copy of the G.E.C.K."

It is possible that Impugn has the wrong version of the GECK, there is a New Vegas Version as well as a Fallout 3 one.

But:

"libvorbisfile.dll and libvorbis.dll are Fallout New Vegas files and you will never find them in your Fallout3 directory."

I have libvorbisfile.dll & libvorbis.dll in my Fallout 3 directory & I don't have New Vegas.

Hey guys.

I downloaded my version of the GECK from Bethsoft's main site. I just installed the GECK into C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 but when I try to run the GECK it still tells me 'This application has failed to start because libvorbisfile.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.' So I re-install it and the same error message comes up.

And when I try to run the 1.5 update it tells me 'Missing or Invalid Registry/INI entry' I just hit okay and then it tells me 'Old File does not exist'

Those are the 2 problems I'm running into and I've been searching for ways to fix them but I'm at a dead end.

That message about not finding the libvorbis.dll usually comes up when you try to install the Geck into the Data folder instead of the main folder with the game's exe. Double check to make sure you downloaded the FO3 Geck instead of the NV one by accident and that you are installing it in the correct directory. If that's not it, the only thing I could think of would be maybe it's because you have Steam installed inside Program Files. You might need to uninstall and reinstall Steam outside of Program Files. Hope you get it working soon.
