ninjamaster0420
Hello, to put it simply googling 'LOOT & cleaning DLC's' and other variations of the wording got me nothing but people disagreeing so I figure I'd ask where the people who DO the modding, hopefully they'd know. Upon running LOOT I get messages to clean the official DLC's and I cannot remember for my life if I did this previously when playing a heavily modded fallout with Very few to no CTDs. I used Gophers video as training so i *Think* I probably did it. Is this a good idea or a bad idea?
Zzyxzz
Bad idea, don't try to clean it. You'll probably break stuff.
JimmyRJump
Regardless of the nay-sayers, I've cleaned DLC files according to the small tutorial I found here on Nexus. Never ran into problems. On the contrary, I used to have quite a lot of crashes and none since I did the cleaning... I'm not a modder myself, but when folks like Arthmoor (co-developer of LOOT and the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch) says it's better to clean the lot and that there's no consequences when doing so, then I have a tendency to believe the guy, as opposed to people coming along and just saying "bad idea" without further explanation. ninjamaster0420
yeah^ all info I found just resulted in people choosing one of 2 sides of this debate and they both sound like they make sense to a rookie like myself...Clean them b/c beth is a bunch of durty game releasing people who make a pretty game but fowl up a lot of parts doing it, OR don't clean them b/c beth released them that way ie: their supposed to be that way originally so LOOT technically didn't 'Find' dirty files...this is why I felt the need to ask..BUT if it's about 50/50 on the outcome of said debate I'd have to let two factors decide my choice: being as I learned from gophers videos...so I probably cleaned them last time i had a heavily modded FO4, And if I cleaned them last game and had little to No CTD's I should probably do it again. Which way would be easier to fix if I screwed it up? meaning if I clean them and get crashes, how hard will it be to fix that? opposed to if i just try to play the game Without cleaning them I theoretically could just come back and clean them then if I'm getting CTD's without doing it 1st....right? speedynl
i never cleaned the main esm's not in skyrim(se) or fo4, never had problems with it, well the game's crash sometimes but thats kind of normal with beth games(maybe a heavy modded game runs better with cleaned esm's, but i never saw any hard evidence of it) as for cleaning, just back up(copy/move) the esm's before you do the cleaning, not happy with the cleaned files, copy/paste them back then cleaning is just like the debate body types(cbbe/unp), some think its a must others don't, just do wat you think is right
