  1. 1. Do you think there should be a Minecraft Nexus

Recommended Posts

Except that finding mods through the forums is an absolute pain in the ass even if you have the specific name of a mod.

That would probably be the only reason I'd support a Minecraft Nexus. The number of posts per second is amazingly high, so the moment you choose the second page, you might end up getting the mods that were in the first page.

Ironically, just now I'm looking for a mod I played a few months back. It wasn't Millenere, but it was similar. It also gave you the option for building NPC villages and having the NPCs adopt different jobs, like builders, hunters, miners, farmers etc. Anybody perhaps know the name, as I can't for the life of me remember it.

I believe you are looking for minecolony

http://sites.google.com/site/minecolony/

But it hasn’t been updated since mc 1.1 so id say it be dead

I would agree that the minecraft forums really need to be cleaned up, but I don’t mod that, much so doesn’t really bother me

@Dark

My guess would be either Curse (who currently sucks ass and uses Minecraft to promote all their other stuff), or Steam, which would potentially work well given the way mods and steam mods works for Skyrim. Well aware it wasn't us, but if it's still Curse, they will probably drop the ball yet again and not be able to answer to the needs of the community. Curse may have the budget, but they don't have the slightest clue how to manage a mod site that isn't just UI addons.

As far as mods and updates go, I believe most of that will be solved by the API as most mods won't be directly altering core class files. Atleast that is the intention since mod authors have repeatedly had this complaint of having to go through each file and make all the changes again with every update.

Regardless, about the most we should probably really do is just share links to mods we use, or groups of mods that work together.

That sounds like a good idea.

I don't actually play much single player anymore, nor do I actually use any mods that alter multiplayer either.

In my bookmarks folder I have subfolders that are titled Visual, Tools, Survival and Outdated. They're probably self explanatory.

The only mod I have that I use during multiplayer is mcpatcher/optifine(If you class them as mods during multiplayer just for adding HD textures) and Reis Minimap. I'd use ingame maps but they're so buggy and broken I can't utilise them at all. Also the waypoints feature is nice to mark down landmarks or interesting ideas.

As for single player. I just use none intrusive mods such as Better Enchanting(No more random enchantments), Customizable Inventory(Smaller/larger inventory, I make it 1-2 rows of inventory so it's very smaller), Backpack mod(Adds a little more realism to having a smaller inventory) and other handy mods.

For example: Useful Seeds (Thanks to mc_crab who linked me this)

[1.2.5] Useful Seeds! - Minecraft Forum

Gives seeds lots of awesome uses that aren't overly stupid :D

Would be nice to be able to share all of this with other players properly on the Nexus instead of swamping our poor Server topic :P

My listing of mods... Most I've been told about from watching Yogbox LPers, but didn't want to do the whole package.

- Equivalent Exchange (SSP, SMP) 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1106178-125-equivalent-exchange-2-v1440/

Mod basically allows you to break down mostly everything into energy and reconstitute it as other items. Collectors (things that make energy from light) can make the mod quite a bit OP, but even then it adds this other layer of depth to the game at the point where you have several stacks of diamonds just sitting there from mining and don't need to make new tools or armor very often. Collectors can be turned off for SMP, and alchemy bags are linked to the user, so can work rather well in a server situation both from the standpoint of some scarcity, and from the standpoint of being able to keep some belongings safe from death/grief.

- Zeppelin (SSP) 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/488434-125-zeppelin-031-wip/

There are several mods which tried to do moving airships and the like... This is the only one that does it right. You can build an airship made of almost any block (up to something like 1024 total) and pilot it around your world. It's still a WIP, and has some glitchyness if you don't rotate the ship very well before re-aligning it to world. But it's the best way to fly in Minecraft.

- Rei's Minimap 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/482147-125-apr19-reis-minimap-v30-06/page__hl__rei%20minimap

Already mentioned before, now linked. Works great with the zeppelin mod so that you don't get lost so easily when you start actually exploring those areas thousands of blocks away. Main benefit is the waypoints, but can be configured for other stuff.

- Sensible Enchanting (SSP) 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/779368-v125-ssp-sensible-enchanting-v49-updated-for-125/page__hl__sensible

The enchanting mod I use. It's a little bit cheaty, but half the point of the enchantment system is to not be blowing through 35-50 levels and a diamond pick for Fortune I and Efficiency II. It is however customizable so you can make it harder or easier on yourself.

- Buildcraft (SSP) (SMP is WIP) 1.2.5

http://www.mod-buildcraft.com/

Been around for a very long time. On one hand it allows you to make machines that mine or build for you. On the other it can be used with other mods to automate various aspects of crafting, harvesting, or just sorting of inventory. IndustrialCraft or Redpower are recommended, but not necessary.

- Millenaire (SSP) 1.2.5

http://millenaire.org/

A mod I'm sure most have heard about or used at some point. The villager aspect of it has always been a little "meh" for me since they just make their own stuff instead of moving into what you build. But with more recent versions I have been digging the rare instance of bandits and ruins. Four of my last six starting bases have been built in the ruins from this mod. Dealing with the villages does add this extra bit of something to do while you're flying around through; meet the people, unload a bag of cobblestone on them, try and convince them not to start fights with other villages dozens of kilometers away... fun stuff. Some of the unofficial buildings are pretty cool though.

- Weeping Angels 1.2.5 (finally)

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/694829-125-weeping-angels-v154-22-apr/page__hl__height

Don't look away. Don't blink.

- Elemental Creepers (SSP SMP)1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/498342-125-elemental-creepers-v23-smp-fixes-open-source-and-more/

Adds more variety in your daily boom. The default radius for some (earth) is a bit high for my liking, but this can be configured in a TXT file.

- Mo' Creatures 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/81771-v125-mo-creatures-v350-with-snakes/

Adds all sorts of stuff to kill, run away from, or just annoy the heck out of you with noises outside your house.

- ThaumCraft 1.2.5

http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/838839-125-thaumcraft-213b-updated-on-2142012-hotfixed/

Still a work in progress, no SMP. But adds this whole other level onto the game and works well as a unifying point between all the other mods that adds its own unique attributes. Basically allows you to make portals, magic symbols and other cool stuff at the cost of slowly corrupting your world and turning parts of it into a sort of nightmarish Lovecraftian wasteland.

All of these should work fine together. Only mod on this list I have not really played much with is Weeping Angels... But that is because it was in a non-updated state for so long. It may still be buggy, but makes for the stuff of nightmares when combined with the others.

That's the one! Thanks. Just a pity it seems to have been abandoned. It was such a promising mod.
