Requesting help to improve my modded SSE gameplay performance.

Hi Everyone - I'm new to the Forum and would really appreciate any suggestions on this situation. Thanks!

I'm experienced in modding Skyrim, but I'm stumped here with SSE. Please let me know if any further information can help.

In comparison with heavily modded Oldrim (running very smooth), my modded SSE runs at 1/2 the FPS (with stutter). I'm assuming there are adjustments I can make to my PC because SSE utilizes 1/2 the RAM of Oldrim while doubling the % of GPU. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Averages in comparable game play:

Oldrim SSE SSE Compared

RAM 3612 1861 52%

VRam 2405 2477 103%

CPU 46 41 89%

GPU 47 92 196%

FPS 53 27 51%

RIG

Intel i5-4690K CPU @ 3.5Ghz (Quad core)

16GB RAM DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 280X - 3GB - GDDR5

Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB

Windows 8.1 (gaming optimized)

SSE Modded

Over 250 Mods, Graphics mods are a mix of 2K and 4K, ReShade, No SKSE

Oldrim

Over 400 Mods, Graphics mods are mostly 2K with a few 4K

Optimized for performance, ENBoost no ENB, SKSE, etc.

if you haven't already try applying sse fixes, it will alleviate a fraction of your game's stress. (something to do with flawed bethesda loop scripting). beyond that nothing else I can think of.

Thanks for the SSE Fixes suggestion, but I got the same choppy gameplay performance and same stats as before. I keep thinking there must be a way to get SSE to utilize more of my RAM / CPU like Oldrim does.

Did you apply the one on the mod page or in the comments section; the unofficial one found in the comment section will help you out a ton, the one in the actual mod page doesn't work and seems to be discontinued.

If SSE fixes isn't working for real (I really doubt it), then you can try cutting the draw/shadow resolution/ grass/area as those usually are tied down to processing. Lowering those would alleviate the stress to perform other tasks your game might need to do.

Thanks for the reply. SSE Fixes was just updated on 4/4 for SSE 1.5.39, which is what I loaded via MO. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/10547/

If I don't get any suggestions to increase RAM / CPU usage, I will definitely have to start cutting some of the settings you mentioned.

Skyrim SE will automatically use memory resources. I have 64ish mods don't think any are 4k and I am using about 4 GB RAM and 4.5 VRAM which makes me wonder if you are hitting a VRAM limit. You are using 2.5 of 3 GB and if there is any memory degradation on the older GPU.....

Having 2000+ hrs on LE, it was not demanding out the box. Then we used ENB boosts and speedhacks etc... to circumvent the outdated engine. But with over 250 mods on SE it is hard to tell what the issue is.

I would start with a fresh game profile with no mods. Play for an hour or so and check the hardware monitor. You can then add a a few mods and see if there is a mod causing it or a hardware limitation caused by resources added to base SE game by Bethseda/Nvidia. Good luck

Edit: There is a mod that returns SE to LE state (removes changes) but the game remains 64 bit. I cannot remember its name but it is on Nexus.

Thanks for the latest suggestions. Give me a few days to try these and I'll provide an update. I did compare vanilla SSE on Ultra before the original post and get 50 - 60 FPS, but the RAM/VRam ratio and GPU % are the same as modded.
