I will be, from now on, be making some changes in the direction of the story because in the last version I was heading towards too much complexity, too quickly. Past written elements, such as characters, will hopefully not be lost but likely be delayed in having a more major part in the story. Example, the British expedition will probably not arrive at the islands until after Chapter Two is finished.

Zombies from the Sky: Forty-Nine

Was Zero 6.1[6]{25}

Zero 10.1[10]{48}

Field Marshal Henry Adler studied the battlefield from the top of his lightly armoured command truck, that was partly a semi-enclosed viewing platform complete with a big tripod-binoculars, a big camera and a movie camera. The cameras were used to make records to be studied later, by supposed experts, in other places far from there.

Armatraks, big armoured machines driven on caterpillar tracks, approached the isolated western coastal area of Australia. Big, multiple turreted, the machines roared past walled encampments, big diesel armoured trucks and formations of infantry soldiers moving to the battle area. They had gas-masks but had not put them on. There were many with bolt-action rifles, that could be fixed with bayonet knives, some with new type semiautomatic rifles, others with flame-throwers and even those with exotic metal electric shock-lances. Archers marched in their own formations, ready to drop clouds of arrows onto the zombies that were once just normal Australian citizens.

The glimmering mist had caught the small town by surprise, when most had been sleeping in their beds. Only about a quarter of the population had survived thanks to the dreams of children, the mad barking of dogs and the careful preparations made by the town council. Many townies had refused to take the threat seriously, doubting that anything like it could be anything but mad fantasies; they had paid the price, the lucky ones being killed.

Unlifen nhools, nombies and damphirs were recruited along with so called living monsters, the semihumans as they were starting to be commonly called. They were excepted, by certain military commands at least, as necessary to the war effort against the undead. Other immunes, to undeath, were valued but carefully supervised since at least some were undeath time bombs.

Howitzers, and other artillery, hurled shells at the enemy from walled emplacements. Explosions sprouted up from the glimmering green fog shrouded town where unlifen would soon raid. The mist was leaving the town, was moving slowly eastwards, as the daylight grew stronger. Yet it was also visibly suffering because of that same sunlight. It was moving with an inshore breeze but this meant little as such glimmering mists had been sighted as moving against air currents though being slowed by them.

Adler wore the uniform of the British Imperial Special Forces designated with the task of helping to fight exotic threats. Yet his official identity was not the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He wore dark sunglasses and an odd looking metallic scarf. On his hands he wore thick black leather gloves. He stood with an amazing stillness except for the movements of his head that went slowly side to side. It was said that he missed nothing, at least nothing of importance.

An airship floated in the distance, observing the town and most likely using cameras to take photographs, and films, of the situation.

Soon the first military aeroplanes would arrive to drop bombs on the town and to strafe it with bullets. Adler hoped that survivors had locked themselves down in underground places sealed up tight against the glimmering mist.

It was then that he a messenger brought information of something most strange about what was happening; far more zombies were coming out from the town, in the edges of the green mist, than had been the population of the town. Also many of the zombies were of the advanced kind with full leathery like skin covering their bodies and translucent fangs plus claws; it took more than a few days for zombies to achieve that state but not even 24 hours had passed since the glimmering mist had appeared. Many of the zombies also had exotic devices far more advanced than those of local humanity, such as metallic jumpsuits and strange rayguns still firmly in their holsters. Just where were the extra zombies coming from and how were they getting there?

Which was when the long distance light bomber planes shot overhead to start raining bombs down upon the unfortunate town. Explosions ripped apart the small metropolis but most seemed to be largely lost in the glimmering mist. The glimmermist was limiting the effectiveness of those bombs but they were still causing it a good deal of harm while destroying many zombies.

Zombies from the Sky: Fifty

Was Zero 7.1[7]{26}

Zero 11.1[11]{49}

The news of more zombies emerging from glimmering fog, than could be accounted for 'locally', was profoundly disturbing information. The League of Nations created the LN Paranormal Research Development Defence Agency, the LNPRDDA that was mostly called the PRDDA; it was pronounced as 'PR' 'double D' 'A'. The PRDDA had its headquarters at Geneva but soon had branches in many nations around the world.

The PRDDA was quick to link up with the Watchguardia and other organisations already involved in dealing with paranormal threats. This included the British Imperial Special Security Agency. Yet it also linked up with a wide range of other organisations be they security intelligence, scientific, military or of other kinds.

One resource soon grabbed up was the international ham radio operators network. These men, and women, would gather up hopefully important information, that they heard, and transmit it to the PRDDA or, failing that, to one of a few listed agencies. It was decided to train, equip, and pay more of the HROs and to grant support to those already existing.

Important meetings were being held, along with too many not so important ones. The League of Nations became embroiled with both intensified international and internal politics but this was only to be expected. The international press were also very interested because it was what people wanted to read in newspapers, listen on the radio to and watch either with TV or movie newsreels.

It was no surprise that many other factions were also highly interested, not always for 'good reasons'.

Zombies from the Sky: Fifty-One

New Episode

Zero 12.1[12]{50}

A great sleek darkness slipped into the reality of the solar system, a great predator of graceful power, cloaked stealth technologies of super advanced kinds meaning that local humanity had no chance at all of detecting it. Nor did a few 'others' in the area also drawn to the Earth by the strange energies emanating from near it and from it.

The starship slowed, by its standards, as it moved gracefully towards the home world of humanity. It began to deploy weapons, to prepared an invasion force, to make other preparations to conquer the Earth.

Abruptly it was gone as a far greater, far more ancient, power firmly-gently sent it away and stopped it from interfering. It was the fifth invasion attempt that had been thwarted easily by the 'hidden ones', that is invasions by dark star species drawn by the bizarre evil of the glimmering.

It was decided and soon a great, powerful, quarantine security barrier was placed around the whole solar system and another around the inner solar system; it cost much energy but it was an excellent investment considering just what was going on. That is it was a cause to protect a whole galaxy and its many species and other entities.

Zombies from the Sky: Fifty-Two

Was One 21.1[20]{27}

Two 9.1[9]{51}

Sangsake, the hulking tigerchimp leader, on that island, was ordered to keep his troops at the abandoned railway station and to avoid conflict with locals if possible, to even send out signals of non aggression. The orders came from the Animata Lords, who had once been part of the immortals that ruled the Utopian Isles; they had split away, into their own faction, when they felt that they were being taken for granted. The Animata Lords specialised in animan, and related, kinds of followers and minions.

The new orders made the tigerchimps happy despite they being ordered to clean up the railway station for unstated reasons. They were lethal fighters but it was dangerous out there with many tigerchimps having been killed over the years. They slept more, played basic games, or listened to an old phonograph record. Of course sentry duty was kept, patrols moved around the base and there was the gathering of resources including bushpods. They left tributes, of what little they could spare, to local folks.

There came a delivery of equipment and supplies, being dropped off by a big kind of flying creature known as a wolfwing. Actually three wolfwings came for mutual protection for even the skies could be dangerous and were getting to be more so. News came that the Animata Lords were moving their homebase with sudden, urgent, haste. That is they were departing from the heart of the known islands.

Sangsake, the hulking tigerchimp, noted there was cheap beer along with guns, ammo, body-armour, and other gear including medical stuff. The beer rationing began and all were happy apart from some minor squabbles soon dealt with by the leader in his 'subtle' manner. The wolfwings staid for a while, resting, and seemed most reluctant to return to where they had come from as if fearful of what they might encounter.

Zombies from the Sky: Fifty-Three

Was One 21.1[22]{28} (Was incorrect)

Two 10.1[10]{52}

What happened to bring the three groups together was a mystery but doorways materialised in metallic stone walls that also came into existence. Exotic gateways took the Oracle, Captain ManMonster and leaders from the other group to the same amazing chambers, a grand complex of them maze like in complexity but also subtle of layout.

Was there some secret, ancient, force supporting them? None of them had any real answers when it came to the ancient entities and their creations. Did the ancient ones still exist, that had made the artefacts, or were other 'higher forces' at work. No answers came with the first arrivals at that place, just more questions.

The newcomers had much to say to each other. The First Mate and Captain ManMonster were glad to meet each other once. The professor, and his daughter, spoke with the Oracle and those who had recently arrived with the refugees, via the underground ways. The others were soon mingling even as the ship's doctor stood back with a pointed aloofness.

Great metallic stone statues were partly merged into one metallic stone wall. There were balconies, rampways, alcoves with strange devices, glowglobes of glowcrystal, great metallic spheres melded to other walls and much else of wondrous appearance.

The place had the appearance of being abandoned for an extremely long time and yet not the straight forward 'feel' that such was the case.

As for the great metallic stone statues, they were of strange robed human figures of tall elegance with the men being bare chested and the women being bare breasted; there was the strong impression that this was in no way sexual but was to do with cultural standards of dress. The great figures managed to radiate a quality of power, knowledge and charisma that was at odds with them being statues.

Others, mostly animans, came into the chamber and were soon exploring with a careful mixture of avid curiosity and fearful caution. Quiet, well organised, oomans quickly made sure that curious animans did not go into some areas deemed more risky by the Oracle.

There was much to do simply to come to terms with the sudden change and then meetings to hold to deal with short term practicalities and longer term plans.

Dorothy, and Toto, sat quietly to one side with the nombies from the lifeboats and the cats plus rats from the same. The dog, cats, and rats were all curled up sleeping on, or very close, to her. With them were the damphir triplets who had some animals in their laps, they sitting cross legged on the floor; they were also quietly observant of what was taking place.

Zombies from the Sky: Fifty-Four

Was Zero 9.1[9]{29)

Zero 13.1[13]{53}

Field Marshal Henry Adler watched as a series of huge explosions destroyed both the last of the glimmering fog and the town that it had taken over. In the bright, hot, sunshine the last of the lesser undead had perished. A large battleship, out to sea, fired great cannons at the town and large land based artillery did the same.

The unlifen, and semihumans, were in an encampment being protected by his own soldiers from another force of soldiers sent to round up, and imprison, the same. Fear had taken hold of the local population and the regional politicians wanted scapegoats to strike at to show the people that they were capable of dealing with any threat. Henry Adler was not going to let either the unlifen or the semihumans to be imprisoned and then executed by xenophobic Australians. As for other kinds of 'immunes', they were also under his protection. Behind him were his command who were firmly supporting his actions.

In a fortified watchtower he stood and viewed the final destruction of the bizarre, unnatural, invader with powerful binoculars. The victory had been a painful one. Inside the glimmering fog were 'greater undead' of terrible monsters of tentacles sprouting from tentacles and other terrible glistening, horrific weapon extensions of their bodies.

With him were three of his most trusted people, who stood quietly and almost motionless. A very observant person might have noted that they breathed, and blinked, far too regularly. There was a tiny buzzing noise in the commander's ear and a voice spoke to him through a skull communicator that was far more advanced than anything more common to that world.

Command: "Alternate phase triangulation has confirmed that the glimmering fog broke through from Alternate Earth 5643-213. The hitech gear, as held by the zombies, also confirms this. Basic operations are to continue but be ready for new critical orders to be sent at any time. Your operations have been given a boost in resources allocations. A delivery will be sent to you in no less than a week."

The communications ended.

Field Marshal Henry Adler wished he had been more reassured by the message but his people's resources were stretched, as were those of their allies, as they fought the Great Enemy across many Alternate Earths. There was a chance the delivery would come late if at all. Yet he had no blame for his people for they were doing the best that they could.

Yet he had a hopeful surprise to come when communications returned announcing that mysterious 'elder forces' were even then providing the alliance with many new resources including duplicated enhanced equipment and supplies, upgraded technologies and new exotic technologies; there were restrictions placed upon their use and secrets hidden inside much of the exotic tech; in truth Adler did not care, and neither did others, for now there was new hope for the cause against the Great Enemy. The renewed hope was, in many ways, the greatest gift of all.
