toungue splitting

hey all, I have been considering getting my toungue split in the semi-near future, I was hoping any of you, or someone you know/knew, got their toungue split. How long does it take to heal, how hard is it to learn to speak again, how hard is it to hide it?

Don't know anyone who got their tongue split, but I once saw some guy on TV who did have it split kinda like a snake. He was able to move both parts independently of each other. I must admit that looked kinda cool.

But if you'd want to get your tongue split like that, you'd probably have to do it in a lot of steps instead of having it cut in 2 halves straight away. Expect a long process of cutting, then healing up, then cutting again, then healing up again, et cetera...

1 advantage to that would likely be that you wouldn't have to learn to speak again at all, because of the small steps involved. Makes it easier to adapt to the small changes. Don't be surprised if you start sounding like a snake though.

I must admit that I too a little curious as to why you'd want to do such a thing though.

Erm, why would you want to do that????

why do people get their ears pierced?

how hard is it to hide it?

Why would you want to hide it? o_O

jobs, a lot of people wouldnt want someone who decided to get a tattoo or a toungue split to work for them

I don't understand why you'd want to do that. And I've never heard of it until now lol.

read above ^

I can't can anything like that done then, no body jewlery aloud over here. You have to look serious here, not like some average guy lol.

But doing some research, I'd say you really shouldn't get it done. Some people have trouble in later life, and the troulbe they have looks horrific.

I'm pretty sure I know someone that had her tongue split. Why am I only pretty sure? Because for as long as I've known her, I've only seen it once. I can't remember who though.

I just remember being surprised. Mind you that I have hearing problems, so when talking to people, I tend to watch their mouths since it helps understand what is being said.

That said, the split is a small one. How easy it is to hide depends on how long the split is.

I personally see it as disgusting, but to each their own. Bare in mind that if you are applying for a public facing job, an employer, even if they are fine with it, will have to consider the impact it will have on their business. For example, I find it disgusting, but not a reason to not how a skilled worker. But if it is blatantly obvious and threatens my business, I won't have any choice but to deny you.

Well there's always a chance that someone will notice, so unless you're good at ventriloquism you might want to reconsider.

When I owned my own company one of my hiring rules was no visible tats, no male earrings, no visible body piercings. The reason is My company was in the Deep Southern part of the US. Many older people in this region look on these as being a sign that the person is probably a criminal and is unreliable. And as my employees were constantly in front of the customers, they had to look reliable. The state also required a full background check for every employee also, so even though I had 2 (that I know of) who did have hidden tattoos, they were 100% reliable.

I had many friends get a tattoo while in the Marine Corps. Several of those that I have kept up with regret it. Others wear theirs with pride. My daughter has a red, yellow & blue tattoo on her ankle. It has faded with time and is now a kind of pastel color. My youngest son has several Tats, one about 8 inches wide on the back of his shoulder. As he works in the security industry he keeps them hidden by always wearing a shirt that covers them.

If you are planning on a body modification, think about 20 years down the road - what will it look like then? Will your tongue grow back together over time? Will it cause any weird problems? What will your spouses parents think? How will you explain it to your kids? Will you have to take any special precautions? - I would think that a split tongue would double the probability of biting your tongue.
