McclaudEagle
Apparently, it's supposed to make driving "more enjoyable". I don't understand how the driving experience can be enjoyable if you're not actually driving the self-driving car.
Thor.
Watch the test video, it might even replace driving all together one of these days... Note the language.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3ulKUJtZ3o its completly self contained, no outside source controlling it, Look at the sensor array.. Edited May 8, 2012 by Thor. SubjectProphet
Ha, like I'd EVER buy those. Military automated vehicles are in the making, but trust me, I also said I'd never use those either.
HeyYou
Ok, so, is the camera pointed at the driver so the computer can monitor his/her expression, and when it registers shock, or fear, the computer scans for WHY??
Thor.
Judging by the hardware, i bet IBM had a lot to do with that car.. Like watson was last year..
RitualBlack
So that is what described video is. I had never actually looked into it, but I guess I know now. Back on topic. It is a pretty neat concept but it would take a few generations of brainwashing to convince us that driving is a burden and we shouldn't be doing it ourselves  .
Lol yes, In mirror cars are unsafe to drive Possible scenario I accidentally touched the wheel, Car alarm don't touch that wheel meat hands... Please sit back and relax for your own safety, not your average seat belt.... Car straps it on really tight.... Vagrant0
Ok, so, is the camera pointed at the driver so the computer can monitor his/her expression, and when it registers shock, or fear, the computer scans for WHY?? The cars will learn what makes us feel fear..The problem is discerning the difference between "awe hell yeah" excitement and "let me out of this deathtrap NOW!!!11" mindnumbing terror. I've seen far too many machines run programs or work on sensor readings but still continue working as instructed regardless of injury to themselves or others. In this case, either everything will HAVE to be on a closed system without any human element involved (automated mass transit (which is something we actually NEED in the US)), Or be tested to the absolute confidence (where every member of the team would willingly jump in front of the vehicle as it is moving, or drive over-aggressively (cutting it off, swerving in and out of lanes, sudden breaking) around one before it should even be potentially viable for use in an open system. A skilled driver can still have an accident because of the other jackasses on the road.
