Staind716
@ RedRavynI'm sure I'm just being thick but I can't seem to get offline mode to do anything other than give me messages saying "this game is not available in offline mode". :( @StaindI don't drive, or I'd probably agree. The wait is better than a public bus round here, trust me. :) Just broke a personal record. Switch on PC, try to fire up the CK, TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES to get through "updating Steam" and "connecting account". TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. It's like using a tape-drive Spectrum. All it's missing is the line by line loading screen. You can fix that by disabling Steam Cloud. That's what's taking so long is waiting for your files to sync. I disabled that garbage the second it became available for Skyrim. You can still save on your hard drive and make a backup of your saves on your desktop in case any get corrupted so you don't lose any progress. My game launches with zero wait time. That is, when I'm not waiting 10 hours (it went up lol) for a stupid 3 gb download. The only thing the Cloud is useful for is if you play on more than one pc or your rig completely explodes. Other than that it's just one more useless annoyance shoved down our throats by Steam.
Deleted472477User
What i think sucks is even if I buy a retail copy of Skyrim, versus downloading it from Steam themselves, Steam is still all up in my grill. I almost don't want to get the same at all, but I know I will.

Why are you downloading the high-res pack if you don't want it? It hasn't forced you has it? For all it's ills it's always been optional for me. TheBestIdiot122
Grr, and I had to deal with each one of these problems.Just out of curiosity, what got your account banned?Actually, it wasn't my account, it was my roommate. He got banned for multiple account spamming, which doesn't make sense due to the fact that he only had one account. I personally had to deal with it because me and him play together all the time. It does make a great base for the game when adding other textures. To be honest, it is my own fault that I'm having to do this. If I had thought about it before I started I could have just gone offline and then added the high res files after reinstalling from the disk. That way the download never would have started to begin with. Oooops. I'll know better next time. I'm actually about to try cancelling the download and doing that. Just thought of it a minute ago. Duh. o_O By the way, I'm glad that helped you get rid of some lag too. :)
tetradite
Haha, I can't wait 'til I have a system that will even consider running the high res textures, I'm lucky if I get to 30fps on Normal quality 720p. Order goes in tomorrow, then a week or two build time... Then I get to go through the *joys* of reinstalling Skyrim, FONV and Civ5 from Steam again... I'm tempted when I get the new machine to queue up the Skyrim d/l in Steam, AND queue up a random torrent version (again, DISCLAIMER, not actually going to or encouraging others to) just to see which one finishes first. SubjectProphet
Usual Torrent install time: 91 seconds (source: Google) Usual Steam Skyrim install time: 2 hours And that is why I HATE Steam.
tetradite
And why it's a doomed business model. Hopefully.
