BlueSpark4
Heya everyone, I'm aware I could probably find all this out via googling by myself. However, since there are a lot of modding-savvy folk here, I was hoping I could save a lot of time by simply asking . Disclaimer: My modding experience is minimal. I fiddled with FO3Edit just a little bit way back in the day, and I did something similar with New Vegas. My issue is: I want to start my next playthrough with the Loot Logic and Reduction mod, but I'm not planning to get any of the DLC (Please don't judge or ask why, that's just how it is). So I was thinking of making the mod compatible with just the base game. I'm assuming all I'd have to do for that is remove any entries that reference items/lists/other elements from the DLCs. Does FO4Edit, XEdit or another modding program have a function to make this easy for me (e.g. color-coding all entries that depend on a specific .esm)? Or is there a different solution I haven't thought of to elegantly remove/circumvent the DLC dependency of the mod? Thanks in advance for your time, any help at all would be greatly appreciated .
HadToRegister
First, I'm I'm not sure if this is really cool asking how to edit someone elses mod, did you ask the mod author? You're going to have to work your way through it with FO4EditThere's really no reason to not have the DLC after two years and a Steam Summer sale that just ended on July 5th and a GOTY edition existing.Which is why more modders are starting to just support the entire Game, DLC and all. It's easier on them to only have to maintain one version of their mod, than to make a ton of different configurations based on people not buying DLC because reasons
BlueSpark4
Thanks for taking the time to reply. The thought of asking the modder for permission honestly never crossed my mind. I'm not going to spread the edited version to anyone else, just use it for myself, so I can't see a reason why it shouldn't be OK. After all, as far as I'm aware, modders usually want people to play their mods . I'm just making it compatible with my version of the game. I certainly understand it's unnecessary work for modders to work on 2 separate versions (DLC and non-DLC), so I have no gripe with them going for full DLC only. That's why I'm just asking for some advice on how to do it myself . I was hoping that maybe someone who's experienced with FO4Edit could point me in the right direction. If not, no biggie, I'll try to get familiar with the editor on my own. Edit: Well, I think I did it. Loaded blank ESMs in place of the DLC files. Removed a whole bunch of entries in italics, then checked the file for errors. Looked at all the entries that were listed - some references showed "No Reference" (or something like that). Since I couldn't find a way to delete these, I set all the references to null. This thread was a big help for me. I could successfully load up a new game - guess I'll see if it works or if it starts crashing at some point. Edit 2: After around 10 hours of gameplay, everything seems to be working fine. Good for me :). Edited July 9, 2018 by BlueSpark4
