I chose the PS3 because the online is free and it doesn't have to be fixed every week, I do much prefer the 360s controller though.

This goes for me too. I had a 360 initially, but it got red-ring just after the warranty expired so I bought a PS3 and haven't had any problems so far *touches wood*.

PS3 loading times seem slightly faster to me. But the controllers are annoyingly small and the triggers are unresponsive to the point of frustration, especially in a game like Dead Space where I'm trying desperately to blow a necromorph's head off and the controller won't accept my frantic trigger mashing

Still, I'm very much enjoying the free online component and the PS3 exclusive "Uncharted" trilogy is awesome!

I know that as soon as I type this I will get the red ring of death, BUT.

I bought a 360 around 2007. For the first couple of years it probably ran 6-8 hours a day most days of the week, including several 24-48 hour sessions. After that, it probably had an hour or two a day for a year or so.

This entire period, in houses where at least 1 person chain-smoked. And I do NOT take care of my equipment like I should.

Then it sat in a damp, freezing cold in winter, boiling in summer garage in nothing more than a cardboard box for 2 years.

Dug it out, works fine. Still on the original controllers too. Literally everything still works fine 5 or 6 years on from purchase.

It really depends, there is a famous car from my country called the Leyland P-76. When they came out they quickly became legendary for their astonishing unreliability, half of them seemed to blow up the moment they rolled off the assembly line while most of the others frequently broke down, yet some, usualy one-in-thirty or so, showed amazing, bulletproof reliability. They either worked perfectly, or never worked at all, and so I feel it is with the Xbox 360, yours either works, or it doesn't. Most work, to be fair, they ARE very vulnerable to accident damage, and they're easy to overheat, but if you're going to get an RROD, it'll probably come in the first few months. To their credit, when mine RROD'ed, Microsoft AU replaced the console for a few $100 + freight.

Hoof-I like the PS3 controller, but it's too small to be comfortable for me to use, I get cramps using them, so the bigger controller types, with the right thumbstick sitting where the PS3's D-pad is are much more comfortable for my long fingers and thumbs, it's also what I'm used to after about a decade of Xbox hardcoring, I'm less of a noob with a familiar layout.

My Xbox must be magical, because not once have I had a problem with it. I have a 250 GB slim, the Halo Reach special edition one. I've had it for the past 2 years, and it survived 12-14 hours of straight Reach playing during the summer here for the better part of June and July :P (I live in Arizona, where it gets to around 110-120 degrees in the summer.)

EDIT: I have all three of the consoles by the way. I almost never play my PS3 because the controller makes my hand cramp up. My Wii I occasionally play, but my Xbox I play most days.

its not all 360s had the problems, it was the first ones. your 360 came out like 3 years after the RROD issue.

my friend keeps hounding me to buy a 360, since now he has both systems. but i just dont see it worth it. the 360 has 1 game going for it. Halo is the only game i would buy, and thats just not worth it. i thought id want Gears too, but after watching my friend play it, it just doesnt appeal to me.

Well, my sister has this Final Fantasy special edition one, and it's one of the older ones. It's never RROD'ed.

I have all the Halo games, AC I, II, and Revelations (I have I, II, and Brotherhood on PS3; I found I and II for $2 each :D), Skyrim, BF: BC2 and BF3, and some others on my 360. I honestly prefer my 360 over my PS3 just because I don't really like many of the exclusives the PS3 has, while it has a lot. I can't say they don't look like they're good, but for me it's not worth it to try and play them with the small controller.

I bought the Xbox I have just because of Halo actually, to be honest. Most of my friends had it and they pretty much forced me to go buy one :P I have to say though, I did end up loving the games, and we've had a lot of fun with multiplayer. If you're not going to end up buying any other games though, I wouldn't say go buy it just for one series.

yea, Halo is the only reason to buy an Xbox for me. as i said, even Gears didnt looks like it would appeal to me. ironically, my friend doesnt even play Halo on his xbox. doesnt like it (which is weird cause they are soo his type of game). pretty much all he really played was CoD and Gears. hes played a bunch of other games too, like Borderlands and Saints Row. but the only game he goes back to for the most part is Gears. hes even gotten pretty sick of CoD.

and honestly, the Ps3 exclusives really are good. they have soo many exclusives, its worth it to buy the Ps3 just to play its exclusives. and if your that uncomfortable with the controller, you could always buy the xbox type controller for the Ps3 (which was linked earlier in the thread i believe) not trying to convince you or anything. just saying

Gears is HUGELY overrated. I thought it was pretty tedious tbh.

CoD, wierdly, I enjoyed most on the Wii. Only game I like on the Wii. Kid's and granny's console.

Even if my xbox dies I won't replace until the next gen now.

Ironically, the PS does seem to have the better games now, I was an absolutely dedicated PS-er until this gen, but when I bought the game selection on PS3 was shocking.

Agree with all the other posters about PS controllers though. Took me a while to get used to the xbox controllers but they are much better - better quality and much better designed if you don't have tiny hands.
