An independent New Vegas mod.

Sure, I have a save right before the final battle I think, if I haven't deleted it.

It's OK if it's after the battle, actually preferable. But it does need to be independent (Yesman), so you can test the betas.

Also, we're not making any money of the mod are we? So it is covered by fair use policy and Parody fair use.

I don't believe we'd be covered by fair use, but I'll check into it.

Also, Vault Town, as long as we can earn a lot of money from it, and it does some real good management skills, then I'm totally in.

Oh I suppose you could make money from it, ie a casino. But more along the lines of a settlement. Quests would include the typical things you might need for a town, along with acquiring parts form other vault. Thought it would be nice little homage to vault city from the earlier games (which I havn't played).

So I'd like to find out who has modding skills and time to contribute. Partly for division of work, but also to give access to google docs projects on this mod.

A lot of the stuff surrounding Lanius appears to be myth, probably circulated by himself. While the Legion was under Cesar's control, people like the rival general could only go so far, do so much - without Lanius or Cesar, that general would have no restraint; basically, the myths spread about Lanius would actually be based off of the actual exploits of this guy.

Vault Town - I would like to see the Strip and West/Free side rebuilt in this style, but if you are referring to some other location, my ideas revolve around a rebuilt Nipton, Novac, or Boulder City. Boulder City is a particularly good choice as it's mostly a blank slate, and in close proximity to the Dam.

About the Viva New Vegas, what do you think? It's a first draft so things may seem outta place with the timing.

you'll want to fight at the dam!
I'm gonna keep on the run,
I'm gonna have me some fun
If it costs me my very last cap!
If I wind up broke well,
I'll remember that I, lived to see it with my own eyes!

I wouldn't say that, it's mostly just around his origin. The guy is a beast, strategically/mentally & personally as evidenced by his conquests since Graham and his boss status. But lets not get bogged down and agree to disagree. What I'm interested in hearing is a little more detail about what you have in mind for your new legate/Caeser.

Do you mean make vault 21 the city vault? It integrate and expand it into the strip/freeside......or did I misunderstand?

I like it very much, the only parts I have a little bit of a problem with (and it's minor, not a big deal) is the line re: benny & Eureka. They seem a little too contrived and interrupt the flow.....but that could be just me.

It's different enough that the parody pd may apply. The mods will be the arbitrator on that. I'll see if I can PM one. The 2nd half of the equation is can anybody sing it. If I try to sing, people will be screaming in horror.

Regarding the Archimedes weapon it would be great if the player has the chance to acquire this weapon at Helios One if s/he chooses the option of diverting power to the Vegas area.

Yeah it is a pretty cool piece of tech. I would imagine it would be easier to discover after the battle at hoover as the installation will be the couriers and s/he may be working on it. I don't think it'd be hard to re-activate the quest if you missed it the first time around,

I think the thing I worry about is it may be too powerful, but if I remember right it is limited to 1 strike every 24 hours? Isn't there a 2nd mode too where the Helios facility can fire off a burst in close vicinity of itself?

While we're also on the subjects of the vaults I came across a modders resource that cleans out most of the vaults in the game with the exception of Vaults 19 and 21. In addition there is also an optional file that clean out the Freeside robot factory which could be used for manufacturing more securitrons. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45637//?

Thanks Devilman, that will make things a lot easier. Still a lot of work though if we want some peeps with personality as opposed to some boring npc's the equivalent of strip toiurists.

With this in mind particularly after the death of both Caesar and Lanius I can imagine that to quickly select a new Caesar a tournament would be set up consisting of selected Centurions, Praetorians and Frumentari against each other in gladiator combat. The winner of the tournament would then be declared the strongest and crowned as the new Caesar.

It's interesting you should mention this as it's more or less the idea behind the "legion" in "the postman". And the Legion of the Mojave more closely follows that story than Rome. In Rome it was a republic represented by Senators (although in Caesars case, that turned out to be problem), complex social classes and nobility that wasn't tied to military prowness, etc

But the legion of the postman was very similar to the Mojave's. Rule by teh strongest, complete and utterly a society built upon military conquest etc. I only saw the movie, & I'm sure the book is better, but your idea ties in very closely with teh flick. At the end it's a personal duel/challenge that the hero defeats "Caesar" in personal combat.

Lanius & The Rival Legion General

I think you misunderstood where I was going with the idea, and on re-reading my post, the fault lies with me:

What I was trying to say is that Lanius is a capable commander, strong of body and of cunning intelligence, but he is not well liked due to his brutal methods. So this leads me to ask, why would Cesar pick Lanius as his successor? So, let's try to figure this out: whenever a king grows older, he thinks about who will succeed him, and Cesar would surely have been no different. He has no known family or children and Cesar knew he would eventually die, so would he really leave his hard built empire in the hands of a monster who dislikes the Legion?

I suppose if Cesar truly had no other choice, say due to Lanius' popularity, I could follow that train of thought - but that does not appear to be the case here. So, let's make the assumption that Cesar knows what he's doing, and has created a symbol for the Legion: an unstoppable, and bloodthirsty savage in an ever present mask. The mask prevents anyone from identifying him (not even his slaves know what he looks like as he had them blinded), so if he's killed, a new Lanius can rise up. This theory is based off of the many origins and contradictory nature of his behavior. Joshua Graham, and the ever-lingering rumors that he still lives despite his horrific punishment, could have been what gave Cesar the idea. Joshua Graham could fail, falter, die - Lanius would not. If a Lanius died during a battle, simply killing the rest of the soldiers eliminates the witnesses and the legend continues.

Alright, I hope you guys are with me so far. Now, a legend is only as good as the stories that surround it. The victories and associated accomplishments could have been done by one man, but let's say Cesar had Lanius take the credit for a particularly tough engagement or massacre so that those who participated can honestly say that yes, that event happened. Most stories that are retold are naturally inflated, so even if it started out as General Markus of the Seventh Legion, it can become Lanius "helping" General Markus. No one can prove it didn't happen, and sometimes people will believe they saw something that actually wasn't there.

Now, based off of the wiki, Lanius is very temperamental when it comes to his honor and reputation which would fit this overall concept as he would be protecting the legend. That is all well and good, but the very public nature of the Second Battle of Hoover Dam breaks the unbeatable legend and Lanius can no longer rely on his reputation to allow him to take the leadership of the Legion.

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

The Rival Legion General could be one of the people that credit was taken from. The bloodthirsty savage is real, just most of it wasn't done by Lanius, but instead, by this guy. Before, there was Legion discipline to curtail the worst of his excesses - without the hand on his leash, he's no better than a rabid beast.

Vault Vegas

I figure that New Vegas will be the shining jewel of the Courier's empire - can't have it looking busted up, can we?

My alternate suggestions are if rebuilding New Vegas is too much work or too hard to do due to mod conflicts.

Helios One

The main problem with Archimedes II is the lack of power, only gaining enough to fire once a day. If the Hoover Dam is under control, I'm sure power can be diverted from the dam to Helios One, allowing quicker uses - some cooldown should be added for balance if this is implemented.

Vaults

Maybe it's just me, but I think the vaults should stay as they are, minus some clutter cleanup - unless of course there is a good explanation as to how (and why) the refurbishment was done, then I guess go for it.

Lanius & Rival Legion General - You've got a good idea there with the rival general becoming a Lanius pretender in order to take control of the Legion. If Lanius has already been killed at Hoover Dam it will be interesting for the player to see the reports of this general and say to her/himself "Didn't I kill this guy already?" until the Legion turncoat previously mentioned informs the player that the new Lanius is a pretender. If the player ever met him in combat I would love to see a speech option along the lines of "Nice mask. I've got the original, you know. I use it as an ashtray."

If Caesar is killed during the botched brain surgery and the player follows the Legion quest line it might be possible to use the tournament idea for the player to advance through the ranks of the Legion and become Legate himself. Maybe even possibly staging a coup later on and becoming the next Caesar.

Helios One - I'm happy with the Archimedes II weapon as it currently is with a one shot per day limit. Multiple use of it would make things far too easy.

Vault City - Maybe the vault settlement idea can be tied in with the Legion chapter of this mod. I was thinking about a vault similar to vault 101 that is located in Legion territory. The Vault had previously sent out scouts outside and when they found out that the area was overrun by the Legion they closed the Vault again. After years of isolation and lack of genetic variety for procreation their numbers are slowly dwindling. The player can discover this vault after removing a Legion camp that was set up to keep tabs on the Vault and negotiate with the Overseer.
