Oblivion won't start problem

DeathWarrior

Recommended Posts

I just tried starting Oblivion and it crashes before the Bethesda logo is displayed, it dosen't even get a full screen, just a window then it crashes. It's not a mod problem since I tried it witoout mods and the same thing happened. I only have 1 clue of what it MIGHT be. I now have a 22 inch monitor with a second 19 inch monitor hooked up to the same computer. The 19 inch I use for surfing the web and the 22 inch gaming (sometimes both simultaneously).

Please help.

Spare a coin for an old beggar.

Oblivion was released in 2006, and even though the graphics are top-notch, they kept the requirements down so more PCs could run it (translation: more sales). So the game recognizes certain GPUs, but doesn't get into the actual hardware coding. So for nVidia GPUs, for example, the 8-Series and higher has capabilities beyond what Oblivion is coded for.

It is not coded for dual-monitor set-up, and not SLI either. You should set your system up to run only one monitor and one GPU for Oblivion.

While correct in the premises there are ways to play Oblivion and have two or more monitors, indeed it can be played even in stretched multi monitoring as I saw sometime ago. I know some Matrox products can do this, what I don't know is if exists software solutions to do so.

Oh my, and is just beautiful, one those times I envy something :)

I've found that that running on one of the 8600 GT's that I have installed is not a fun experience personally.
