Radioactivelad
Does anyone have any theories as to what would be preventing the player character's model from using Lip-Sync? I can get the player character to speak as well as a NPC using a Quest, but Lipsync just doesn't function.
dubiousintent
As a theory: it was probably never implemented because you normally don't see the Player's face even in third person view. You would have to toggle "free camera" mode and shift the PoV around to the side or behind the NPC to observe the Player's lips. Not worth the effort to code for normal game play, and remember they had to drop stuff (cut content) as it is so it would work with consoles. -Dubious-
Radioactivelad
There's little different between an NPC and the PC in practice though, so I don't think they'd need any specific coding. Matter of fact, checking Oblivion, the Player Character will speak with LS if forced to with the Say command. (Player.say Greeting, as an example.) That game also has NPC-like headtracking for the player as well, which 3/NV lack. I get the impression they may be related. JimboUK
The player character can use facial expressions so their faces work, I don't understand why they would disable lip sync, if the player character doesn't speak why go to the effort of disabling it? if it is linked to the headtracking then you're out of luck, headtracking isn't just disabled, it's completely absent. Radioactivelad
That was my though (about the headtracking). I did find this mod which apparently had headtracking for the player at some point. It was only experimental, but it doesn't seem to work at all now. Mktavish
Hmmm interesting ... but it does seem like the head track may be needed in order get a sayto running its lip anims ? ^shrug^ with the seems to me method . The voice file is playing fine ?

It was modded back into Skyrim and works well, I don't know how different the scripting is in that though. I really wish they hadn't removed it, there wasn't a problem with it in Morrowind or Oblivion and it made the player character less zombie like. Does the player character open their mouth when they shout in pain from taking falling damage? I've tried jumping off things but can't swing the camera around quick enough to see their face. Edit:The player character does not open thier mouth when taking fall damage, it's just an expressionless ouch.

To be sure ... do other npc's move their mouth during fall damage ?Ive seen npc's play a voice file but not move lips. Hard to say why ? I think you are on to something with it not being in the que , or it cues to late to be rendered , because to get there you were panning the back ground ? JimboUK
I held F, swung the camera in front of the character and jumped off the roof, it followed her down perfectly and I could see that they was no facial reaction, I even recorded it and went frame by frame and nothing. On headtracking, disabling headtracking on NPC's doesn't stop the lip sync working so I wonder if the two are related at all.
