Anyone else noticed this?

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Oblivion Nexus has 27280 mods, but the newest one takes up number 42333.

But really, I have seen a lot of Skyrim modders starting to leave the nexus because their files got taken down with no explanation, the Nexus needs better, or more clear rules, and there needs to be more constancy on what gets removed.

Some of the removed mods that go toward this grand total number were removed by the modders and re-uploaded immediately. Sometimes if an upload is totally broken and corrupted, it is easier to just delete it and start over then to try to get someone to fix it.

Sometimes mods are pulled down because they are obsolete. The modder who uploaded, or another modder, makes a much better mod that does the exact same thing only better, and probably with more features. So a mod gets pulled down, but there is still a very similar mod available for download.

Sometimes mods become obsolete and get removed because they get combined. So if three mods were merged into one, the new mod might get uploaded, and the three original mods might get pulled down.

There are published guidelines for mods (the rules) that say what is and is not allowed to be uploaded. Unlike many other sites we still trust people to follow the rules and allow people to upload their work without checking it first to see if it is or is not appropriate. Most people do stay within the guidelines so I don't believe our trust is misplaced - But a few do get through.

We don't remove mods on a whim or with no explanation. If a mod gets removed for cause, then the maker of that mod doesn't need to leave - he is banned. Take a close look at those who claim to have their mod removed from the Nexus for no reason - then go through the banned forum to see if you don't find their name - along with the reason they claim we don't give. :whistling:

If we think the mod is redeemable, we may temporarily hide the mod and allow them to fix the problem. But if they are caught uploading copyrighted material that is kind of hard for them to do.

Then we have several a day that are just empty - no mod is uploaded, and often no mod is even intended. They count as a removed mod also.

We see several every week uploading copyrighted content - such as music or even pirated copies of the game or DLCs. (Megaupload anyone?) Banned

And those who try to use the mod uploads as an announcement of a mod they want to make - but need to learn how to make a mod first. (not allowed) Removed, Strike, NOT banned

Or have just discovered mods and think they want to make a total conversion - Skyrim into <Fill in the Blank>. (It shouldn't take a good modder a week or so - right?) :pinch: - if they can just find a real modder to help and do all the work for them. - and put their request in the mod uploads - Strike but not banned

Since Skyrim we have gotten a rash of kiddie 'modders' who's idea of creating a mod is to find somebody elses mod somewhere and copy it here believing that will give them 'cred' as a modder. On a report by a member, and a little investigation, we find that they do not have any permission to upload the mod, and that they pirated the game to begin with and don't even have a copy of the CK. These are not even modders, just lame copiers. On a par with scanning a copyrighted best selling novel and claiming it's OK because we won't be sued for it. - Banned

Then there are a few that we ban immediately based on content - very few as we are fairly open minded. But we do draw a line at such things as pedophilia and a few others that could get the Nexus shut down. For those that think it's safe to upload or download those type mods, I do know of an FBI agent who plays Oblivion - he reads the forums and gets mods from here.

Most people will never see these removed mods as we do tend to get to them quickly
