  1. 1. Would you buy Skyrim Art?

Recommended Posts

I have seen beautiful "Skyrim Art" going around on Skyrim Nexus.

Many times I have asked myself what if I could take one of my favorite screenshots and put it on a T-shirt, poster, framed print, laptop skin, mousepad and so on.

I have also seen "Skyrim Paintings" in-game in the Levelers Tower 24 Cheat-mod. I thought it was awesome and I wouldn't mind having one of those in my "real" home.

Because of this need I decided to find a way to do that and now I wanna know if people are interested in this service that I created. I am very passionate about both Art & Skyrim and being help to serve other people this way would be great.

With this topic I wanna ask the Skyrim Community if anybody would be interested in buying Skyrim Art.

Meaning that if your favorite Skyrim screenshot could be put on a T-shirt, poster, framed print (or whatever you like) with let's say one of your favorite quotes or any other customization that you would want.. Would you buy it?

Please note that this is only a question. I am not here to endorse my service/product/website. I only want to know if people are interested in this service I want to offer.

Positive feedback is highly appreciated.

Come to think of it... I'm not even sure if it would be allowed to use screenshots from Skyrim for my art without breaking some sort of copyright.

Does anybody happen to know if it is allowed to use screenshots of PC games for Art?

I understand that the creators are the owners of the scenery, characters and so on.

However, if everybody would be sued for using "software" to make their (digital) art then that wouldn't make much sense either. I'm sure "software" like Poser 9 is used a lot to make digital art that gets sold.

I'm simply not sure if it is allowed to use Skyrim as "software" to make art that you can sell.

I don't really understand why the creators of Skyrim would deny it either.

The art would only promote Skyrim which in return would lead to more sales for the creators of this great game.

Again any feedback is highly appreciated.

I don't know any of the legal-eze of this but...

I won't deny that I've seen some very beautiful, sexy or haunting screenshots here and elsewhere (4chan /wg/, and deviant art come to mind) but buy it? No. I do buy art but I wouldn't buy any that wasn't done by an actual artist. Just sayin'.

edit: after thinking about this further... I imagine you could have some sucess with t-shirts and such but it would really depend on the art. A simple smiley face has probably made millions for somebody so anything's possible. :)

I am sure something like it would be possible to do, idk legal issues, might have to work with Bethesda or something to be able to do it. really idk " never tried anything like that or seen it happen, might be a possilbility that you dont need go through Bethesda, because your not using or reselling a product of theirs you selling your own product, but then ad's theirs. I could be all wrong with this here but never know ". i am sure you could do it for like buddys and yourself but selling it like a store or something would run into the legal part. buyers i am sure there would be. people buy anything and some buy the strangest things you can think of and love them, and you look at them like

If you start charging the public for it, or making money off it, I suspect they will hammer you. I think there was an article recently about them copyrighting the "fus-roh-da" phrase specifically to stop other people using it on merchandise?

There are all kinds of complexities as to what they do or don't own, which none of us here can pretend to fully understand.

But, pretty likely to be illegal:

- Selling stuff with direct screenshots printed on it

100% definitely illegal:

- Selling stuff that has the words "Skyrim" "Elder Scrolls" etc printed on it.

Basically, I think it's probably illegal especially if you are charging for it, but if you really want to know, contact Bethesda.

I agree with Tetradite. I'm not a lawyer, but I did ace poli sci (lol).

The only possible loopholes I can think of offhand (in the US) might be

1) satire (this could work, I guess, but you might not be able to justify hot chicks in bikinis)or

2) educational use. (much harder apply here, and the hot chicks would have to go, for sure.....)

Turns out artists and money don't often meet. As a musician, I feel your pain.

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the replies! I really appreciate the positive feedback.

I have decided to just e-mail Bethesda and ask for their permission.

I am very passionate about this so I really want to give this a try.

I will let you guys know if I have any luck.
