Vortex and mod merging?

In my case when using NMM I had to merge mods due to texture limits in Witcher 3. Does Vortex still require you to merge mods? Also when using Vortex are you required to merge scripts? When I tried this I got loads of errors which I don't with the old NMM. I am going to try a clean install of mods with Vortex to see if this works better as initially I tried to import them from NMM and it completely messed them up and files went missing. I just wanted to ask these questions before trying again though, thanks.

The necessity to merge is dictated by the game engine in question, not by the mod manager you use.

So, for Witcher 3 you will always have to merge scripts as soon as you have two or more mods editing the same scripts - otherwise only the last mod will take effect and override the other. That's a Witcher 3 (and Witcher 2) thing and not something a mod manager could affect, I'm afraid.

The same is true for textures and the texture limit.

I am not sure what sort of errors you are getting at, can you recall a specific error message? Are we talking about importing mods for Witcher 3 from NMM to Vortex?

Missing files after import can be explained by unmanaged files in your game/mod directory. Unfortunately, NMM does not always keep a meticulous installation log, and may or may not "lose track" of certain files, which Vortex then cannot import: https://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Importing_from_Nexus_Mod_Manager:_Things_to_consider

Sorry I didn't explain it very well. The errors I refer to are actually a mass of conflicts when trying to merge scripts. These did not happen when using the old NMM. I did not realise my files were messed up/missing until after I tried merging the scripts. I suspect this was the cause of all the conflicts and I will try Vortex again doing a clean install of mods on it which I'm sure will rectify this issue.

IN order to successfully merge scripts with Witcher 3 (learned this through experience), Vortex uses SYmlinks for Witcher 3 mods, and if you run the Witcher 3 Script Merge tool it won't do anything, and leave you with 0 byte script files, because Script Merger doesn't know what to do with symlinks

If you have mods that have to be merged, you're going to have to manually install them (Or just use NMM for Witcher 3) so that the actual physical files are in the mod folder, so when you run Script Merger, it will be able to do it's thing, and Merge the Scripts together properly.
