Why does Vortex exist?

I just dont understand why this was necessary. It was already kind of a pain in the ass to get my mods setup to play a game like Skyrim SE or Fallout. There was this long tedious process of figuring out what changes I'd have to make, or what mods required external things, like new skeletons or whatever.

I just cant fathom a reason to put another level of complexity on top of that. Now I have to relearn a new interface, figure out what the hell a "deployment" is. This all just seems so utterly uneccessary. Was this just to give someone something to do?

Like... there haven't been any new games yet. But there's now a "mod organizer" that has an inherent conflict with GameBryo games.....?

Dudes Skyrim was made in what like 2012? Why are we doing complete system revamp in 2018??? It's like Windows 10, bunch of complicated features I cant seem to figure out the use of, or how it was better than just having a basic menu. I don't know. I don't mean to rant, this is a serious question. Why is this a thing?

So far this program is a piece of shizz and has screwed up every single game install I allowed it to touch. Who puts out crap like this? WTF?

Vortex is a "thing" because of inherent limitations in Nexus Mod Manager, which Nexus Mods officially stopped supporting about two years ago. All this has been widely discussed in Nexus Mods news releases and in Nexus forums. To learn more, start with the recent news releases on Vortex and move on from there.

While there have not been any new Bethesda games recently, there are many other games of recent origin. Vortex is designed to manage these as well as Bethesda games. Vortex currently supports thirty-five different games that have a modding presence on Nexus Mods.

Are you puzzled about "deployment?" There's a fine Nexus Mods Wiki that explains this and more about Vortex.

You seem to think that Vortex has an inherent conflict with GameBryo games. Do you know that for a fact, or is that just hearsay?

Nobody is gonna sit here to explain to you why a working mod manager was required instead of the ancient trash that NMM is. Specially not when there's news articles detailing clearly why which you can't seem to be bothered to read. But then you seem to think a lot of things about modding which aren't right.

this post is absolute and utter garbage.

bottom line - you are too lazy to educate yourself on how to use a very simple program correctly, and this is the result.

let me fix this for you, so it's more accurate;

"you screwed up every game install you tried to use vortex on because you didn't take the time to understand what you were trying to do".

you're welcome.

... and after almost a year that Vortex has been available for the community, you come today to criticize and rant about it ?

Nobody told you that you had to use it and nobody will explain to you ( at least not me ... ever .. ) how does it work.

Your games are screwed because you screwed up, so that was your responsibility and it is yours to fix it. Go read if you want to learn it, otherwise go back to NMM.

You just reminded me the famous phrase said by Forest Gump in that movie !!

I believe the news post about the Vortex beta release explains our reasoning: https://www.nexusmods.com/news/13816

Note that we also recommend people with large, working, stable load orders to just stay with whatever method of mod management they are working with. No one is being forced to use Vortex, or learn anything new.

For people who are willing to try out a new solution to mod management, the Vortex beta is here, along with documentation, and a dedicated forum if users need help or want to provide feedback.

That being said, it is hard to improve aspects of Vortex based on unspecific feedback. If you have any specific aspects to point out that need improvement, by all means, do not hesitate to let us know. This thread, however, appears to serve no further use.
