radulon40crotch
I've seen other dedicated threads to this subject, but I'm getting an entirely different error and the fixes I've seen mentioned don't seem to be working. When I try to login, I get an error message that says "The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect." It refers me to an event log and a command, which I know nothing about or what to do with. I've tried reverting to NMM again after uninstalling as a result of my frustration, but I can't login with that anymore either. It claims my firewall (which has been verified as permitting NMM) or that the server is down. This has been going on for over a month now, and I can't do anything with any of my games anymore. Update - It just had a timeout error."Log in connection closed prematurely Code 1006) Error: Log-in connection closed prematurely (Code 1006) at WebSocket.on.on (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\webpack:\src\extensions\nexus_integration\index.tsx:233:7) at emitTwo (events.js:126:13) at WebSocket.emit (events.js:214:7) at WebSocket.emitClose (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\node_modules\ws\lib\websocket.js:172:10) at TLSSocket.socketOnClose (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\node_modules\ws\lib\websocket.js:780:15) at emitOne (events.js:121:20) at TLSSocket.emit (events.js:211:7) at _handle.close (net.js:554:12) at TCP.done [as _onclose] (_tls_wrap.js:356:7)"
Grestorn
Side-by-side configuration errors are usually caused by certain DLL or other shared components in Windows which are missing or invalid. Try to resinstall Vortex from scratch. If that doesn't help, I'm pretty sure that your Windows installation is really damaged. Properly by some tool which was supposed to "clean it up" (CCleaner or something like that) which is notorious for damaging installations. NEVER use such tools! radulon40crotch
Oof. Yeah, You hit that one on the mark then. I totally have been using ccleaner. Is there any kind of repair that can be done without reinstalling windows?
vorpalbunn
I'm having this same problem. What can we do to fix this? XD
Grestorn
I think the best course of action would be to refresh your Windows installation. How this can be done depends on your Windows version. But this *will* be some work. You will keep your documents, save games etc., if done properly, but you'll have to reinstall all your tools, applications and games. Tannin42
One thing you could try: When you get the side-by-side error message, open your start menu and type "Event Viewer" and open it. This is an windows tool to see the event log the error message refers to. Maybe the error message gives some indication of what is broken, e.g. it could be a driver and reinstalling that fixes the problem. Also, you could open a command prompt as administrator (again, search for it in the start menu) and type "sfc /scannow". This will start a (somewhat lengthy) scan of systemfiles and whether they are in the correct version. Also: You say "When I try to login" - at what exact point does that happen? Immediately after you click the login/register button inside vortex? And then no webbrowser opens? If so your problem may simply be that the Webbrowser configured in Windows as the default browser is broken. Open "Default Programs" from your start menu, click "Set your default programs" and check what you have configured for the web browser, maybe try switching to something else. For me, when I hit the register/log in button on Vortex, it brings up the nexus website. I am logged in on the website, but the loading circle on the Vortex just keeps spinning for at least 15 minutes before I get the error message... Failed to get access key. Log-In connection closed prematurely (Code 1006) Error: Log-in connection closed prematurely (Code 1006) at WebSocket.on.on (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\webpack:\src\extensions\nexus_integration\index.tsx:233:7) at emitTwo (events.js:126:13) at WebSocket.emit (events.js:214:7) at WebSocket.emitClose (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\node_modules\ws\lib\websocket.js:172:10) at TLSSocket.socketOnClose (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar\node_modules\ws\lib\websocket.js:780:15) at emitOne (events.js:121:20) at TLSSocket.emit (events.js:211:7) at _handle.close (net.js:554:12) at TCP.done [as _onclose] (_tls_wrap.js:356:7) I tried using the Event Viewer as you suggested but to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what I'm even looking at with it. So I'll now be trying the sfc/scannow. Any further help would be appreciated in this.

I just checked the default, and set it. I will install vortex and again and see if this solves the problem, as refreshing windows isn't really an option I'm particularly keen on until it's on it's last leg haha. Thanks! Grestorn
Refreshing Windows is like a spring cleaning. Yes, it's a couple of hours of work, but it's also worth it, in my opinion. But, you should know what you're doing, of course. Or ask for help.
vorpalbunn
Okay! So, not only did I do a windows restore to factory default three days ago, but I also did the sfc/scannow and restarted until windows found nothing wrong. I'm still having this same problem. Any other suggestions would be appreciated, I just really want to play my games.
