OK, I began getting the following error:

Error: yaml-cpp: error at line 1, column 3: unknown escape character:
    at l.handleResponse (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\webpack:\gamebryo-plugin-management\node_modules\loot\index.js:134:1)
    at ChildProcess.handleResponse (C:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\resources\app.asar.unpacked\bundledPlugins\gamebryo-plugin-management\webpack:\gamebryo-plugin-management\node_modules\loot\index.js:66:1)
    at emitTwo (events.js:126:13)
    at ChildProcess.emit (events.js:214:7)
    at emit (internal/child_process.js:772:12)
    at _combinedTickCallback (internal/process/next_tick.js:141:11)
    at process._tickCallback (internal/process/next_tick.js:180:9)

I read that it had something to do with LOOT, so I uninstalled it..Still got the same error.
So I uninstalled Vortex and reinstalled... got the same error..... So I uninstalled Skyrim & Vortex... made sure to clean any files, registry entries etc... Reinstalled.. and....
GOT THE SAME FRIGGIN ERROR....

I'm about to go crazy... how can an error persist when there's no trace of an application or its data?

If I install Vortex on a different PC.. will I get the same error???

Any clues as to WHAT to do to fix this?

Thanks!

Forgot to mention: I tried installing Vortex on THREE different drives... and....got the same error.

Tried it again... uninstalled EVERYTHING... deleted all files, references, registry entries.. everything I could find...

Reinstalled the game on a different drive, and Vortex on a different drive... and got... the same error...

MO2 was written by the same guy who wrote Vortex.

Have you upgraded your .NET platform etc?

i have seen reports of this being solved by deleting (or renaming) the file masterlist.yaml in AppData\Roaming\Vortex\fallout4\masterlist

try that and see if you get any joy. obviousy swap fallout 4 for your game.

Fallout 4? Why would I want to play that load of garbage with New Vegas still on my drive?

Thx for the suggestions... I'm back to using MO2 (you know that program made for us big boys) and have already installed everything, 210 mods running nicely... no issues whatsoever, no error messages.

I appreciate the help guys... thanks!

Yeah, the same author... so? With Fallout 76 Bethesda has proven and set the premise that not every child one has is an A+ student... being the same author means nothing. MO2 is still king (for me at least)... But, I gave Vortex a try, and aside from the persistent errors, I don't really like it at all... way too simplified, maybe for the occasional modder but not for people who truly want absolute control of their mods.

OP can't figure out Vortex written by Tannin42, goes back to MO2 written by Tannin42.

Oh, and nice try at the insult, "Big Boys", but it fell flat thanks to all of your posts where you were having a hissy fit.

Ahahahahahaa, that shows me you barely scratched the surface of it.

But hey, enjoy MO2, now we can go on to helping people who know what they're doing.

Whenever someone says the Uninstalled and rreinstalled EVERYTHING, that tells me that they don't have one idea what they're doing.
