Mogtepyigsoloth
I've been using Vortex recently and found it to be a powerful tool. I've learned the ins and outs of the rules fairly well, but I have issues with the group management I can't find answers to anywhere. • My group mngt. chain has various colored nodes; what do these colors signify? • Vortex told me that my management rules had an unused node "High Priority Overrides", and that it would fix it automatically by removing it.This fix left the offending node intact, but broke my management chain. It also left the "Late Loaders" node stranded and black. Will this still work? I now have two separate chains, with Late Loaders orphaned in between. Attempts to connect them lead to more black nodes.Again, what do these colors signify? Looking at my plugin load order all seems unchanged. How important is it to have one unbroken management group chain, will they all load independently? It appears from my plugins they should, but it's unclear. • Reset. What precisely would this do to my management command chain? Vortex is not complaining about the current broken management chain. I'll try to boot my game and see if Late Loaders is still loading, it has my water mods in it. Vortex is a wonderful mod management tool in serious need of an in depth user's manual. It's a fairly intuitive device, but the group management area confuses me. I'd appreciate any advice or insight, and some official documentation would be most appreciated also. GG Did you try using the KNOWLEDGE BASE built right into Vortex, and accessible from the left hand Menu? Did you click on any of the Video Tutorials in the top menu bar? Mogtepyigsoloth
Nothing in the documentation I've read speaks about the group colors, or about the reset option.Could you please point me to this specific information? I've noted that closing and reopening Vortex can in certain instances actually reorder and rearrange the group nodes.I let LOOT sort things automatically unless a mod author gives specific load order instructions. I see that the ability exists to manually set your load order via group rules, but that's above my skill/ level of patience set at this time. Well that's good to hear that you're allowing the built in LOOT in Vortex to handle the load order, you're on the right path to using Vortex. For a tip, if a modder says their Mod needs to go to the bottom of the load order (a LOT of modders insist they do, although it's not necessary 100%) you can add that mod to a group like "Dynamic Patches", or "Late Loader", "Later fixes and changes" etc. That will usually plop the esp down to the bottom of the load order
Mogtepyigsoloth
I appreciate your advice. I've been using late loaders for my water mods. My group chain has a couple spurs, but it seems to work. I'd like to get rid of the couple of black nodes I can't seem to get rid of, but I'm not even sure it matters, so I ask questions. What do you think of the broken group chains that Vortex created from my load order? How would they load; or is it merely a function of plugin order and the groups are just a way to adjust that?I've linked my groups using what logic I can muster, I'm too much of a neophyte in the game to tell if all's working well. I have yet to CTD, I'm up to 12 level, so the game definitely runs without much issue, I have quite a few texture replacers, but fairly light on scripted stuff so far.My load order was 99 mods long before I ever played Skyrim for one second. I bought Skyrim several years ago, but I was too busy with other things to play it. Modding tools have come a long way since I modded Fallout New Vegas; Vortex is awesome, it enables noobs like me to play with the works of geniuses. BigBizkit
What do the colors of nodes mean? What happens when you hit reset? The colours are just on a few predefined groups and have no meaning per se. Hitting "Reset" displays a warning message and gives you the option to revert all the preconfigured groups to default (i.e. as they were configured when you first launched Vortex), remove all custom groups, or both. Mogtepyigsoloth
Big Bizkit,OK, so the black node color doesn't signify an error. That was a concern. Vortex orphaned my Late Loaders group when it fixed the issue it had with High Priority Overloads. I reconnected this group in a few different patterns, and each time closed and restarted Vortex. Vortex would change my group management list each time, and it took a few tries to find a pattern that seemed acceptable to both Vortex and myself. This is how Vortex deals with specific load order, and it's still a complex affair that takes time to learn. Thanks for your help.
