Categories need improvement, far too nebulous/generic

Categories really need to be improved.

You can't go looking for a Weather mod, by searching in a WEATHER Category, instead they usually get spread out over several different categories because the current categories are so nebulous and far too encompassing/generic that people tag everything that sounds remotely related to the mod, because of the Categories being far too encompassing.

For instance, if you look for a weather mod, instead of finding a Weather Category, and finding the mod in a Weather Category, it will be spread over several different generic categories like "environmental" (while it's a step in the right direction, it's still too 'generic', because "environmental' can encompass a lot of things), "ENB Preset", "Gameplay Effects and Changes", "Immersion", "Items and Objects - World", "Landscape Changes", "Miscellaneous", and "Overhauls" and whatever else people decide to tag a mod, because the tags are so generic.

Time to drill down

Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure if you know but mod categories are actually suggested by mod authors during upload. The staff do have to review/approve them but every game has just a Misc category to begin with, and as more mods are uploaded, more categories get suggested.

For the Bethesda titles, it becomes quite difficult as we have hundreds of suggested categories which are often what tags are for, or misspellings of current categories etc.

While I'm not saying it can't be improved, I'm simply stating that we rely on users to suggest categories for their files. If we do add new categories, it'd be down to the authors of those mods to recategorise them, at least with tags users can vote them onto a file to make them relevant.

Here's an example
I'm browsing through "Player Housing" category.

The 4th mod on the 1st page (sorted ALL TIME - DOWNLOADS - DESCENDING)

Is Sneak Tools

Why are things like a gameplay enhancement Thief Immersion Mod getting tagged so it shows up under the "Player Home" category?

Perhaps there should a reduced, and set list of categories, and people don't get to suggest Tags anymore and instead can pick which category they want their mod in through a drop down, because as it stands with so many people able to tag mods the categories will be all over the place.
