Dwemer technological level

How advanced in comparison to us, where they exactly?

Excluding the magical aspect of Dwemer technological development, they had a great sheer amount of engineering, plumbing, mechanics and pressures.

What I am supprised that although they where great smiths and metal workers, they have yet to show any experiementation of fusing metals together to create alloys or any such material.

The unknown metal simply known as Dwemer metal is clearly an indictation of experiementing with metals as no other race can identify its components and metals found in it.

There are many kinds of metals found throughout Tamriel and I would think that atleast some individuals in the past froma nywhere in the Empire or provences would get together, especially smiths and alchemists to see if they can create stronger, lighter materials including armor to provide better defense as well as mobility for thier respective armies or if they can see the monatery potential behind it.

Dwemer metal and Steel are both alloys and the latter is used extensively in Tamriel. Without magic much of Dwemer technology will not function at all. Given the fact that we cannot yet make a reliable robot which can walk on two legs the achievements of the Dwemer in the field of automatons appear incredible.

@bjeet We do have robots that can walk/run on two feet like ASIMO and have had them for some time but thats the best they can do (They can't jump and stuff).

I know about ASIMO and all those Japanese stuff but none of them have exactly made it out of the lab. I added the word "reliable" because of their AI and Mobility limitations and the fact that Lithium Ion batteries aren't as good a power source as Soul Gems.

Think of it...with soulgem technology, your car could be Powered by Bob!™ I knew there was a reason behind all those rabbits and drums in Skyrim!

I know this is old but i find this stuff really fascinating. I really like jhncanson's idea. There is a lot of lore that actually supports that theory. The blindness for instance, the Dwemer DID cause it. The third paragraph of the UESP link states; 'The Snow Elves, meanwhile, had not actually been driven out of Skyrim by Harald, either; many of them sought sanctuary with the Dwemer. Although they agreed to provide them safe haven in their underground realm, the distrustful Dwemer rendered them blind by forcing them to consume toxic fungi once found growing deep underground. The Snow Elves became servants of the Dwemer, and then, after several generations, into their corrupted slaves, the Falmer'
