v00d00man
Wow, this limitation is super annoying and basically pushing people to buy premium. Just about month or thow ago speeds was ok, now this happens and i sense a strong smell of GREED! Same old bad greed that just recently ruined Bethesda and many other publishers, same greed that almost ruined Steam when they started to sell mods, same greed that once ruined PLANETNETWORK and Gamespy (remember how you have to wait for your free download with 100 more users at the same time? oh i remember!) and many many others! Dont you learn any lesson from their mistakes? I understand that some money need to keep things running, but doing it this way just by artificially limiting free user is a disgusting way to shoot your own foot, destroy your reputation, alienate user base and let some less greedy rival grow up popular and way to let users abandon Nexus! Seriosly this is very dissapointing. Just learn this tip: if you want people to pay for your service, instead of removing something vital from them, offer them some really good extras and they will pay! What did you do? Opposite - you removed vital thing in hope that user will pay, well, part of them will surely pay, part will suffer from low download speed and will eventually prefer other modding sites. And even "low" prices not a good excuse to milk us like cash cows! They seem low only when you take them out of context of everything people need to pay for nowadays, everyone has to pay like for few dozens of services, taxes and everything like that, while stand alone they are free, combined together they starting to suck a major portion of people income and adding extra service to pay for is bad idea! Also, this modding site is not something people use every day or even every month, so monthly pay is unfair - you have to download 1 freaking mod at good speed and forget for site for next month and you have to pay for whole month for just doing that - for real? And them it happens then rest of 29 days that was paid for was unused but money was taken! And i personally dont want to pay 4$ bucks just to download some files once per month! This is unfair pricing system! If only days when actual download happened was counted and suck price would be paid for number of actually used days, than i would not be so much annoyed by this and would feel fine that my unused paid days are waiting for me until i will have to download something else, but just paying for whole month without download every day is just unfair and wrong like whole speed limitation. However there are other reasons why i still would not pay, and they are not really about money... YOu should realy think about what extra you can offer without limiting speed or any other features we had for years, instead of taking away from us what we always had. Because what you just did with speed is called extortion, you are not offering us benefits, you taking away benefits we already had and extorting us to get what was ours back! This is why out of principle i would not pay for that even 1 cent, because is a sort of crime and reminbs me what all the publishers are doing now because of progressing greed! You better should add some good feature that will really hook people up and let them want to pay, or add some DONATION BAR on front page like Wikipedia or every streamer and just user peoples good will to pay expenses to keep Nexus running! You know, if DONATION bar would ask kindly to support Nexus to keep it running every month - i and many other would pay even more than what 1 month subscription asks now, because it does not look like extortion, it looks like call for help and aprecitaion, but speed limit extortion does not deserve any support even if it cost 1 cent, because its not really much about money, but more about respect towards your user base and more about humanism and goodness. Asking to donate is people can without limiting them is ok and would more likely wake up peoples good will and desire to help, but limiting people and demand money to remove those limits are totally not ok and would more likely enrage people who will be disgusted by this greed. And right now i feel totaly disgusted by greed that started to plague nexus... you are now no different to Greedthesda and other and you just betrayed modding community by doing this same way Valve did when they entered paid mods! But you still can get back from dark side to the light one and revert this decision until its too late and until some rival came out of shadows and reatracted audience disgusted and alienated by your greed. Think about it and remember - modding is not AAA game production, its not a profession, not a job, not a business, its a hobby for most of us, and most of us doing it at a free will to help other people to improve their gaming expirience same way we improved our own... and demanding money from people who publishing their free content and even from people who came here to download content that intended to be free - is wrong and disgusting thing to do that may ruin modding community! v00d00man
It was not - just a few months ago i download Shenmue 1 and 2 AUDIO mods and they was fast to download and i was able to download many files at the same time, not it seems like only one is downloade and other kept on pause and speed like 10 times slow it was. I redownlaoded same mods i did few month ago and this time it took several hours! Its 2019! And speed is like its 1999 year and im using Dial Up or ADSL modem!Speed limits are insane and super annoying. And it does not matter if its year of month since it started to happen, what matter is that this should not happen at all, its awful! It just a worst way to encourage people to buy premuim, like i said above - this is extortion, speed we always had was taken away from us and now we are extorted to pay to get it back! I could not imagin greed like this to be possible on Nexus... What next? Paid mods? Paying 10$ to download horse armor mod or paying 1$ to download croshair texture mod? DoctorKaizeld
It literally was the same speed. You probably downloaded at a bad time. Sometimes the speeds take a dive due to high user traffic
TheVampireDante
v00d00man: Hate to break it to you, but the 1mb limit has been in place for non-premium users since 2007. Last year Dark0ne made a change that doubled the limit for people not using an ad-blocker or who become a supporter, that was all. SirTwist
Luckily for me I bought the lifetime premium status. And it's been worth it. I may not be on nexus downloading stuff all the time, but when I do, it's usually either updating stuff, or full on modding a game. Right now, I am modding Skyrim Special Edition. And that is from scratch. It has taken me a few days to pick and choose my mods, so far, but it's not downloading that has slowed my progress, it's playing other games, picking and choosing mods, RL stuff, etc. I need to, fairly soon, finalize my mod list, and start playing. Right now debating on a few mods as used by Chay and Gopher. But I have no problem with the speed, even at 1 mb a second. The speeds have always been low for everyone not premium. Even at premium level the speeds can be slow, at times. However, it is typically because of high traffic in my area. Youtube warns me about it at times. DrakeTheDragon
Worth keeping in mind your actual download speed depends on the CDN node that was selected for you based on certain CDN network criteria. The nodes are spread all over the globe, and while the network is aiming to always connect you to the node closest to you, expecting the best possible connection and download speed, this will not always be the case, depending on multiple different, and unknown to us all, factors. It's not impossible to get a fairly decent download speed one day, and the next it totally crumbles. The network may have switched you to a different node, the node you're (still) routed to is under too heavy load that day, or whatever else could bring down network connection quality or stability. Some folks are even as bad off, there isn't any good connection node inside their region at all. But that's all nothing to do with the download caps being in place for longer than you are a member. If you're encountering unusually bad connections, for whatever the reason, you can always help the devs diagnose the issue by doing as you can read here: https://help.nexusmods.com/article/92-im-having-download-issues-what-can-i-do
AugustaCalidia
this is extortion, speed we always had was taken away from us and now we are extorted to pay to get it back! I could not imagin greed like this to be possible on Nexus... OP's claim is absolutely false. When I became a member in Dec. 2007, the 1MB cap was already in place, and it has remained in place ever since then. Nothing has been taken away. I suspect OP's real problem is that he wants uncapped download speeds but doesn't want to have to pay for that. Although Nexusmods currently offers him a 1MB free lunch, he apparently wants a free breakfast, supper, snacks, and dessert as well.
M48A5
@v00d00man, If you don't like the service you are getting, you can always take your business elsewhere. There is nothing making you stay here. I have no problem with the download speeds.
