sopmac45
"" For those of you who post here regularly, we really appreciate your vocal support of Vortex. But if you could please take a leaf out of my book here and try and approach things less from a "RTFM" approach, and more from a "this user has issues and they're annoyed, I'm going to focus on their issues and ignore their anger" then this forum would be a lot more welcoming, a lot more helpful, and a lot more conducive to creating an environment that provides helpful feedback and constructive criticism. Focus on the issues and don't focus on any snarky comments or get baited. Once you get baited you start ignoring the actual point of the thread and stop providing actual help to this user, or any other user with a similar problem or similar feelings. """ I agree and disagree with you Dark0ne. I have been off these forums for a while. I agree with you about helping people so I did before the best I could and completely based on my own experience with Vortex. I provided dozens of suggestions and the most important of all was to use Vortex as a lab, download just a few mods ( no more than 10 ) from a game that the user does not care too much about and start to monkey around with those mods to learn Vortex. Once the user felt comfortable, then I suggested to start a new game from zero point in Vortex and I never ever suggested to import anything, and what happened with my suggestion ? New users do not want to read anything, they do not pay attention to suggestions and they do not want to investigate how Vortex works, what is it, etc, etc, I can go on the whole day listing here the things they completely ignore. The problem here is not Vortex, NMM or the answers we provide and I agree with you that sometimes I have been a bit too straight forward and probably blunt with new users but, the real problem is not even our attitude toward new users that ignore to study Vortex, the problem lies totally on them for not having the discipline to study, review, investigate or try something before jumping 100% to a new Mod Manager that is completely different to what we tried in the past. And I ask you directly : can we fix their mind ? Can we fix their lack of discipline ? No sir, we cannot ! And that is the real problem. Vortex is surrounded by dozens of tutorials, procedures, dev team helping to answering questions and users like me and others who have posted in this thread and still none of all of this help somebody, who without reading and knowing what they are dealing with, start to use Vortex completely blind. I do strongly believe that pointing the finger and show them where to find the answer, is in humble opinion, the best help they can get. They need to be educated and they need to do their homework. I would like to know how many times there are questions from people that have been doing their homework and how many times there are questions from people ignoring all the procedures and tutorials. Since I am not here to repeat what the procedures said, what the tutorials are showing, what others have explained in details hundred of times with screenshots and highlighting where to find the answer or what to do, I decided just to help those who have done their homework because even if we study, there are going to be questions and I have no problem at all doing that with all my heart. But I will completely ignore the ignorance and I will not repeat what have been said or has been written hundred of times but I will point the finger and provide the link so they can review and study. >> Give a man a fish and you will feed him for one day. AugustaCalidia
@sopmac45. So glad you're back in this forum! We've missed you! As for the issue at hand, I agree with you, but I also agree with Dark0ne. I agree that no matter how much effort Nexusmods expends to make the transition to Vortex relatively easy and pain free, it's not going to succeed. It's not going to succeed because, short of having to pass a Vortex exam to access the program, people will continue to dive in with little preparation. However, I agree with Dark0ne that we have to try. Most importantly, we need to make Vortex educational materials impossible to ignore. We need to make it clear from the very beginning why it's so important to spend some preparatory time with Vortex. And we need to make these educational materials as user friendly as possible. Will this effort be successful? I doubt it. However, this effort will still be worth it because Vortex is worth it.
sopmac45
@ Augusta Calidia ... hi Augusta, it's been a long time and I am happy to say hello to you ... Back to the thread .... I agree with you to a certain point. The response from Dark0ne was very clear to me. "Be very polite or stay out". I do believe that we have been very polite, very soft when we have been repeating the same thing over and over, we have been super patience with new users and sometimes, we have been doing babysitting job here. I decided not to continue doing that. Why ? Because I love to teach and help when people are willing to read, study and apply what they learned. The majority of new users do not read at all. They just come to ask questions because they want us to explain them what to do, practically, they are skipping what they are supposed to do and I am not here to help those kind of people. If you continue doing that, so be it and I respect your decision 100%. To make Vortex more friendly, the only thing we need to add is "ALEXA" ( lol ... ) ... so when they access Vortex, Alexa should scream out of its lungs : "STOP .... don't do that, but this" .... ... honestly, the great majority of people out there are just lazy people and I do not deal with that kind of people and for me to stay out of trouble with Nexus, and based of what Dark0ne said, I prefer to stay out. I got the message very clear from him so I will not continue helping anyone. I will continue reading the threads because there are important information to learn from you, HadToRegister and others but I will be accessing the threads from a distance, observing and learning more stuff about Vortex, etc. Just to put some cherry on the top of the ice cream : some people come to US and they do not want to learn english. They are not stupid, they are lazy and they want an interpreter to do the job for them. I do not like lazy people because they do not want to learn, they do not want to study and research. They have a cell and they are able to navigate in the net, downloading MP3 music, watching videos and pornography but they DO NOT want to use Google translate to learn english, simply because they do not want to and simply because they know that the system will provide an interpreter whenever they need it. This is the same situation here in this forum. They come here playing stupid and they want us to do the job for them. They are not stupid, they are just lazy and again, I do not like lazy people and I will not continue kissing their a.... AND because of the respond from Dark0ne is practically backing me up to stay out so I have no problem with that. I think that behind what Dark0ne said, he would like us to stay aside and let new users to research. Think about it, if we stop helping, they will have no other choice than to read and learn. That is exactly what Dark0ne wants at the end of the day and I already started doing that when I decided back in December to stay out. I am backing him up ! Thanks Augusta for listening and I am very happy ( again ) to say hi. I will be around.
