actually a book does mention you.

http://uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Oblivion_Crisis

"The prisoner arrived at Kvatch to find it overrun by daedra that had poured in from a newly-opened Oblivion Gate, the start of the Empire-spanning devastation of the Oblivion Crisis. How the prisoner closed the gate is not recorded. Once closed, Martin and the surviving Kvatch guardsmen drove back the daedra.

Now known as the Hero of Kvatch, the prisoner and Martin returned to Weynon Priory, only to find the priory sacked and the Amulet taken. Jauffre survived the attack, however, and the three of them made their way to Cloud Ruler Temple, bastion of the Blades. This secret fortress in the mountains outside Bruma is where Martin was held safe while the Hero of Kvatch searched for the lost Amulet."

"Before Martin could perform the ritual to open the gateway, Mehrunes Dagon opened an Oblivion Gate outside Bruma. The Hero of Kvatch saved the city and Martin by entering the gate and closing it before a daedric siege engine could destroy Bruma and Cloud Ruler Temple. Many songs and stories have been told of this battle and I will not retell them here. The Hero of Kvatch was now also known as the Savior of Bruma."

Anyway, as long as there are heads to sever and chests to raid...I'm happy. Better than sitting on a throne all day listening to a court filled with whinging lickspittles and regal wannabes any day of the week

They can't write the player into history for the simple reason that some players do not chose to play certain questlines such as the evil ones or maybe others. I mean, I'm sure everyone who played Oblivion became The Hero of Kovach, but do you ever hear about him? No, because maybe someone chose not to do the main quest. Making the player into the Emperor would be too hard to dismiss from the history books, so I agree with your point that they have to do it like this.

But the main character in Oblivion obviously did complete the main quest in canon, what with the world not being run by Mehrunes Dagon and his daedra hordes. This despite several (heck, most) of my characters not bothering to complete the main quest.

So, the continuity already assumes you completed the main quest. Having the main quest end with you as the new emperor wouldn't be much different. Even if some players never bothered with it, the continuity can still assume they did because they were supposed to.

It seems you guys think that I want to be the Emperor . Well , I don't . I just think that these achievements could easily make you one . Anyways , the dovahkiin path is similar to Talos' . Strange ...

yep totally agree with you...I mean our dovahkiin have the deadliest force in skyrim..be emperor sounds good..but forr me...I dont want to be emperor..I just want to enjoy my daily guild chest on the deep of riften's ratway...lough at odd cicero joke..run on the field of whiterun tundra with aela on the fullmoon night, maybe there's brawl i could win at silver-blood in at markath..or just travel around skyrim on my shadowmare to hunt down ma'iq the liar

Well, at least Bethesda tried to make that "important man" thing. And there's no problem or shame on being the most important man/woman of Skyrim because you won't be forced to be High King of Skyrim even if you did a LOT of great things.
