jaysus
ya true to some extend... but the big bang didnt create matter but distribute it... that god particle would be helium as thats the base element for all other elements... if it dies it splits up to the next few elements in the periodic table and so on...ya its said nothing can be faster than light as the mass of the object accelerating towards it gets higher and higher the closer it gets... basicly the energy gets transformed to matter and slows the whole thing down...the whole problem about that theory is the fact that speed depends on the point of view... and points of view that would let you see somin faster than light (aka a cam on one of the particles at light speed colliding) get distorted in time and space to appear to be flying under the speed of light... basicly the way towards each other gets bended in time thus theyll never reach that speed... search for "myons" on that matter... particles which arrive on the planets surface even tho their speed would not be enough to reach it before they die... but due to their speed they bend time and thus appear to live longer to us than to them...inhow far that experiment would actually beable to create that point in time named the big bang... i dunno... to me it looks more like an experiment to show or find out how to turn any matter to energy and vice versa... maybe even to meddle with time... or even to experiment with the mind... as our thoughtsare just energy and thus if viewed from another point could be matter and thus reality...itrs crazy stuff i know... lets see ;D pity so few info is around about such a project... Arion12
This may sound a bit picky (and late) but the base particle is Hydrogen helium is no.2 , hydrogen is no.1. Just correcting you  .

Just correcting you  .Indeed Hydrogen is the simpler atom (unless something smaller than one par proton/electron arrives). Particles are another stuff... Javalin
People shouldn't be experimenting with things like that, just to see what happened before life began. Reason being: Religion: Completely disgraces it - It will change peoples views on religion, completely destroying it if the big bang theory was to be proven. Its completely wrong what these people are doing. Somethings are better off not being known.

Well, i'd like to reply to this entire post, but i fear a flame war, so i will quote only the last phrase: "Somethings are better off not being known" I'm sincerely stunned by what you said, so humanity shouldn't have discovered fire, for example, or the wheel. You are proposing humanity to live in ignorance and superstition, aren't you? Oh and you said "something" assuming that some things can be studied and revealed... Well, is there anything that, before his scientific explanation, didn't belong to the realm of superstition? Right now i have to think about it a bit, because i can't find a valid example. No offenses, we 're all good friends, you know :D
nosisab
The Big Bang theory is severely questioned already, it have so many inconsistencies. It was born with the concept matter and energy are independent and all attempts to reunite them into a duality are like patching a net. Explaining the presence of the primordial matter is itself pushing the real origin somewhere else. A most probable origin involves matter and energy being created at pairs at some time in the process where the own time is created aside the space. The ancient tao concept translated into the known Yin-Yang symbol (that circle with two drops of contrasting colors with a small circle in each from the opposite color) that implies: each and all things are made from two formants, and more, says each formant is tainted by the other in the daily world, rewinding until the very basic fundamentals... this symbol is assuming a crescent meaning at each step science does nowadays. A new cosmogony must take in account the very "fabric" the universe is contained into. Unsurprisingly this will lead to the concept the universe being finite to what contain it, albeit being infinite (unreachable) to all things it contains. And NO, there is no hints of religion in this concept..., at least I hope will never have one. Seeing the universe as finite to "whatever contain it" arises the question if it is unique... I'll say no more from now (except I'm not talking about parallel issues).

Somethings are better off not being known.I could not disagree with all you stated anymore. My religious beliefs are not threatened by science in any way shape or form, they have only been supported by it.I am not willing to discuss religion here because it is against the rules but I just wanted to make that abundantly clear. True objective science is wonderful, my only concern with CERN are the safety issues. That being said, just because I disagree with you or anyone else does not mean I don't like you or want to flame you, that is not my intent. We are both entitled to our opinions. Michlo
I too am staggered at that close-minded post but I shall move on. It seems that the experiments have now been closed down until next year. Cheers.
Thanodai
I must say, I am very disappointed that they had to shut it down do to a cooling failure. I was anxious to see what kind of results they would get. I guess after 13 years of waiting one more won't hurt. Hopefully this will give you a chuckle. -T- http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/dan/8-28-08/bunker62.jpg
Thanodai
Smash a stapler into another stapler at close to the speed of like and boom .... dark matter? or...a Chair? I just don't get it. One mass into another mass which then creates a non-discovered mass, yeah, just don't see it. Sugar+coffee+milk+hot water, ok I got it, but you can reverse engineer that...love to see the reverse engineering on a particle that is theorized to exist. What gets me is the hypothesis that 94% of the universe is made of it, should be pretty easy to come by then wouldn't it?Matter, at the sub-atomic level behaves very strangely. Take this experiment, which essentially demonstrates the inseperability of waves and particles. Hell, even atoms behave strangely when you start approaching absolute zero. They become one "super-atom" otherwise known as a Bose–Einstein condensate. Matter is seriously messed up. -T-
