Keanumoreira
Note: Do NOT bring religion into this thread. It is against Nexus jurisdiction to do so, and I will report any and all offenders to the staff and request that this thread be shutdown. For those of you who are not aware what philosophy is, it's the study of general truths to achieve different spheres of understanding. Philosophical discussions occasionally invites religion, so again, please do NOT bring it in here. You have been warned. Now that we have those unpleasantries out of the way... What is your philosophy? It can be simple or complex, widely recognized or more personal, anything that is considered a philosophy is welcome here. To break the ice, I'll share one of my own: Hegelian Dialectics: Proposed by Heinrich Moritz Chalybäus, those who follow this philosophy generally believe that a being, force, or movement creates a thesis, a shared opinion or viewpoint, and as a result, is challenged by its direct opposite, an antithesis. Only through the unification of both, a synthesis, can order be achieved. It is through this synthesis where each opposite becomes the other, and thus, loses their individual identities and become as one. Regarding the last process in this philosophy, I find objection. I do not necessarily believe that in every instance a resulting synthesis achieves "order". I do not agree that, in doing so, a solution can be achieved each and every time, nor that it's the best for those two opposing forces or everything else affected by them in general. Therefore, I follow this philosophy to some degree. What about you? Do you have one to share?
Iv000
My 'philosophy' consists of 3 things:The golden rule, the law of attraction and altruism. Golden rule:One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself Law of attraction:The law of attraction is essentially a belief or theory, that "like attracts like," and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results Altruism :The principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others ( opposed to egoism) Edited August 2, 2012 by Iv000

Simpler ones tend to be better. Quicker to grasp. Easier to remember and act upon. Here's mine; If you can't do something right, do something stupid. Seems to have worked for me so far. It interested me so I decided to find out how it ticks. I found some general truth in it, but again, I don't find the theory 100% accurate. The first two make the most sense to me. The last part of it is impossible to be the solution 100% of the time. It simply isn't feasible. And nonsense, everyone is smart enough to learn the complexities of life, no matter how young or how old. If you're looking for something that is a definitive fact, then there you go. Edited August 2, 2012 by Keanumoreira

XanAlderon
I live by relatively simple philosophies, one which is somewhat similar to Iv000's 'Law of Attraction', and that is that emotion is contagious, and will rub off on the people around you, therefore it is the duty of those than can be happy, to be happy, and make the world a happier place through that. :) And the other one, which I came up with to justify my actions to a particular disgruntled team mate during a competitive mock trial (nation wide legal competition thing), is - 'Life is only as serious as you make it'. tetradite
I've read the works of many philosophers, and works on humanity. Plato, de Montaigne, The Bible and many points in between. All of this has led me to the conclusion, that truly, and I am being deadly serious when I say this, the core of ANY philosophy which is worth anything is found in Bill & Ted: Be excellent to each other. You can tart it up with flowery language, you can expand with specifics, or whatever, but that's the core. I also know the meaning of life. It is: Find where you belong. mizdarby
I live by a fairly basic set of principlesBe the best you, that you can be.Always be the bigger person, and say sorry even if you are in the right.Challenge every science fact you have ever learnt, sometimes science has got things wrong.Try to do something new every week. The aim is to make me more compassionate to my fellow man, to not let harsh words ruin good friendships, to have a clearer understanding of how things really work, and to widen my range of life experiences.
