taitai907
After patching to 1.7, I kept crashing frequently. To make things worse, I couldn't load a recent save afterwards. The game just crashes to desktop instantaneously. I have, thus far, alleviated the issue by rolling back to 1.6, but I fear that this is not a long term solution. I have Dawnguard installed and so far have not had issues But I would like to properly patch the game to 1.7. Any solutions?

Georgiegril
My advice: check all your .ini and graphics driver settings to make sure Steam didn't change them...mine always get changed every update. Also, if you haven't already done basic mod troubleshooting, check out Bben's mod troubleshooting guide. Same effect. I have to use the 1.6 TESV.exe to avoid crashing in caves.
seth2012
It might be a mod, Warzones for example causes crashes in specific places for me so I can't use it. I2d say check your mods if you haven't already...
Deleted4404112User
Disable your mods if you have any. That's the only thing I can think of that would be causing cave crashing. Also try backing up your save game files or reload an old save.
gigantibyte
Some other things to try: - Update your video drivers. This may sound cliche, but since your crashes started with the latest patch, the game may now be calling video functions designed for later drivers than what is installed. I imagine that the patch programmers must update their tools constantly, and probably don't worry too much about backwards compatibility.- Update Windows- Disable antivirus and any other unneeded programs running in the background.- google skyrim ctd
taitai907
I was considering reloading an older save, however, the next most recent stable save was 20 hours past. I've tried eliminating as many mods as possible and I know all my drivers are updated (I'm an obsessive stiff about updated drivers). I've tried disabling MSE, but so far, the only solution I've discovered is rolling back my TESV.exe. So far, I've been able to run Dawnguard and everything without issues, but this is still most likely a temporary solution.
