Vortex is (not responding) on startup!

Hello, I have searched and read through most of the help section and not having any luck with this issue. I have Windows 10 and have been running Vortex problem free past few months and the I installed a new mods "Sim Settlements" and "Vivid Fallout- All in one" for Fallout 4 and thats when I got the white screen and Not responding with choices of wait or kill application. Nothing ever happened if I choose wait, so I always just have to close Vortex. My PC is 4.3 ghz i7 processor with GTX1080 graphics card and 16 gigs of ram. PCI SD drive, SSD and 50 terabyte Hard drive so 3 drives.

I tried uninstalling Vortex today then restarting windows and installing newest version of Vortex but it didn't make any difference and still not responding.

Only way I can get Vortex to work is removing Fallout 4 directory under "BundledPlugins" folder under Vortex folder- resources/app.asar.unpacked/BundledPlugins .

But then when Vortex starts Fallout 4 is missing of course, so not much I know how to do from there.

Any help welcomed guys.

Thanks!

If someone could just tell me how to delete mods without having to open Vortex then maybe I could go in and delete Sim Settlements and Vivid Fallout and then try starting up Vortex to see if it works?

Surely someone out there can help me with this issue??

Thanks!

Does anything from this post apply to you? https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7151166-whitescreen-reasons/

Also, what version of Vortex are you on?

Vortex version - 0.17.7 is version I tried to recently and ver. 16.15.0 was what I had when it first crashed installing Sim settlements and Vivid Fallout.

Yes, I seen that white screen post but from what I understood with it is Vortex actually crashes with an error code. Mine just gets stuck in the white screen with "Not Responding" and there is no error code or exception that I can find anyway. If I knew how to uninstall those 2 mods manually without having to use Vortex I could probably get it going again. I just not sure how to do that though?

Guess I will just have to switch to Mod Organizer 2 since nobody knows how to fix Vortex. Its sad, there are several other post on here with similar situation for weeks and not been solved yet. Not complaining just saying that its something apparently not to many people know how to go about repairing this issue.

Appreciate the passive/aggressive comment, also....Good luck with switching to MO2, as it's written by the same person that wrote Vortex.

I'll see you in the MO2 support thread.

Well, that goes to show just how much I really don't know about these damn mod organizers. Can't win for losing. Any other suggestions then?

This will leave the deployed files in your data directory, but at least to remove an installed mod so Vortex don't detect it's installed, open up the "mod staging folder" in file explorer and you'll see many sub directories with the name of your installed mods. Find the two directories corresponding to your two mods and cut and paste the two directories to another location on the same disk (hopefully this will keep the hard-links). Alternatively just delete the two directories.

If Vortex now start correctly and if you moved the directories, you can try exiting Vortex, move one of the directories back to original location. If Vortex now start chances are the mod is duplicated on mods tab. If the hard-links survived being moved by file explorer it should hopefully be possible to uninstall the mod and have the deployed files corresponding to mod deleted.

I appreciate the help Rattledagger but unfortunately I need more help as I have no idea where the "Mod Staging folder" is? Is it actually a folder called that cause it didn't come up when I did a search from explorer?

It's not called "Mod Staging Folder", except under Settings in Vortex. Normally you'll see the location under Vortex Settings - Mods, but since Vortex don't start you can't look it up.

It's the folder you specified the mods should be installed to, at least if your game is not installed under c:

If you didn't specify anything, not sure where the default location for installing mods are, but maybe it's something like

%appdata%\vortex\name_of_game\mods\

At least "mods" should be one of the directories, unless you've specified another directory to put the mod-files in.
